Hi,
My guinea pig seemed to have a slightly bloated belly, now when he has had this before I have given him a bath and he has passed a few stools and all seemed fine, now tonight I have given him a tepid bath and no poop or wee, I have dried him and again the same. I have extremely lightly massaged his belly in a circular motion (like I did my daughters when a baby and constipated)

He had not ate much all day and to be honest I did think maybe he was hot, (he has just started to eat a little hay, whilst I am typing this).

Can anyone advise me on what I should do? I hate seeing my pig off colour.

Thanks
Sam

Can you take him to the vets?, it sounds like bloat which is a serous condition but can be managed with medication and massaging his belly etc like your doing to help him pass stools.I don't know much about it but hopefully someone else can give you some more detailed advice x

He is more alert than earlier and my neighbour has just looked at him and she said his belly is squidgy not hard like in bloat. She said she thinks he has had too much grass as he was having a good nibble earlier. Going to keep a eye on him I think and see how he is in a hr when I have got my daughter in bed as she has SAT's starting tomorrow and will werrit about her pig, so got to do whatever in secret. Thank you for your reply Gem x

It's best if there is suspected bloat to avoid all veg until the digestive system is back to normal - stick to pellets and hay.

Piggies often eat too much grass at the beginning of the season so it is best to limit their time on grass and reduce veg to take account of the grass they have eaten (grass counts towards their veg ration). My piggies were limited to 20 minutes each at first and the time increased slowly each time. They are also on short rations at veg time.

Thank you for your reply Vicki I will do what you suggest. He's been back to normal today
