Our first, and so far only guinea pig, Ben went to the bridge this morning. Yesterday he did seem a little under the weather but he had his daily run in the garden and was munching away as usual and when we put him back into his indoor cage he started biting the cage bars for his dinner. We gave it him but he showed no interest at all. He just stopped eating and drinking and also stopped going to the toilet.
My wife was up at 5 am with him as she was worrying about him and he had been making some noise. We managed to get him into the vets at 11 am this morning.
We were prepared for the worst so she said her goodbyes to Ben before I took him to the vets. They did an ultra sound on him and he had a tumor on his bladder. I had time alone with him to say my goodbyes before he went to the bridge.
We adopted him off a work colleagues relative when he was around 18 months old and he reached the age of 5 years and 10 months which was a good age for a guinea pig. He was an indoor pig and had lots of human company and interaction and also had a couple of playmates for a while. Benji another male guinea pig we babysat for a few weeks for 2 summers, and also Alice our female lop eared rabbit. He loved playtime with Alice in the garden and they got on really well and often groomed each other.
Rest in peace Ben and go find Alice and Benji.
