I have the Benebac Plus for my guinea pigs squishy poos. I have the big syringe kind. Petunia is 600 grams and Igby is 650 grams in weight. I was just wondering how much and for how long should I give them the Benebac?

Hi! Please take any guinea pigs with squishy/soft poos off fresh food until at least 24 hours after the poos have firmed up again and the guts have settled down and stopped fermenting. over 80% of the daily food intake should be unlimited hay, so they should not lose any weight by eating more hay to rebalance their guts. Be careful how much and what veg you feed. Be extremely sparing with fruit. Reintroduce veg slowly and in smaller quantities at first. I find fresh herbs like cilantro/coriander or parsley best.
Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

Benebac plus is a prebiotic. You can give it if you wish until the poos have normalised again and your piggies are OK with eating veg again. But the main thing is to rebalance the guts by leaving out the veg.

If problems continue or reoccur even with our diet recommendations, or if you are dealing with runny diarrhea, please see a vet.

The more hay a guinea pig eats, the better its long term health and its chances for a longer life. ;)

I did the 24 hour without vegetables and there was no change. I tried to make and appointment with my vet but I guess she is on vacation or something and there are no other vets who will treat a guinea pig where I live. Silly me, I thought benebac and benebac plus where the same! If the poops dont change in 24 hours do I keep them off vegetables? How long can guinea pigs go without them? Would the benebac plus do any good if I feed it to them?

Please keep your piggies off veg until they have firmed up. Piggies can go a while without them without problems. They only make around 10% of the daily food intake. You can give the benebac.

It is always a headache when these things happen over the Christmas holiday period.
