Benjamin has an abscess...and I'm about to cry...

The third photo is a good example of a wound that has healed by "Secondary intention" ie it has healed from the base up, which is the case where there has been tissue loss and/or infection.
What is needed now is a photo of a wound that has healed by "Primary intention" ie a straight, clean incision which heals at skin level and is typical of wounds which close over in a matter of hours.
 
Been to the vets today...she is very pleased with Ben. Felt all around his wound (which is healed now) and said that she is confident there is nothing left behind it. Ben is still on Baytril for another fortnight just to make sure the infection is cleared. After that, I just have to keep an eye on him to make sure nothing comes back. If it does, the vet has suggested pulse antibiotics as an option.

I've been very impressed with the vets...thorough all the way through.

Great news! I am sure Ben will be thrilled that his bald patch is allowed to grow back in now, bless him.
