Absolutely gutted my daughters gp suddenly became unwell today and had to be put to sleep.
I'm so worried her sister is going to miss her terribly. Peppa and George were only 6 mths old.
Vet advised waiting a week before looking for a new friend.
How easy is it to introduce a new piggie? Also if I got another pair would the 3 be ok or would she feel outnumbered.
Thankyou

I'm so sorry about your loss!
Guinea pigs need to be introduced in a netural territory with no piggy scents! They should be put in a room or playpen with no scents and given fresh veggies and hay. There will be some dominance behaviour, the links I have given you will explain....

Good Luck! x

I'm so sorry for your loss. :(
Keep an eye on your remaining piggy - they tend to react differently to the loss of a cage mate so there's no rule of thumb as to how she will get on. Check for any signs of depression - not eating/drinking/not leaving hideys/sitting listlessly in corners.

Giving her a cuddly toy or something to snuggle up to may help in the interim before you find a new friend for her.

Whereabouts are you located? Many rescues in the uk offer a piggy bonding service where they will pair your girl with a suitable partner.

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry for your loss. You are welcome to post a tribute to your little girl that has died in our Rainbow Bridge section anytime that feels right for you.

Where are you located? The best place to get a suitable friend from is one of our recommended piggy savvy rescues with a mandatory quarantine/health care and pregnancy watch; most of our recommended rescues are offering dating under expert supervision at the rescue, so your little girl can make her own choice who she wants to get on with. That will contribute towards a happy relationship and will mean that you do not have to do the crucial bit of the bonding that can go wrong (acceptance) yourself, so you are not in any danger of ending up with piggies that do not get on without a rescue to fall back on.

You can look at both neutered boars and sows; age is less crucial than mutual liking. Cross gender bonds can be very loving indeed and are the most stable of all piggy bonds. Trios can work if the balance of personalities is just right, but they are the constellation that is most prone to outsider problems.
We have got a recommended rescues locator on the top bar for our UK members. I may be able to provide rescue contacts in some other countries. Please speak to all rescues within your reach. They have often single piggies for bonding not advertised on their website.

Most piggies thankfully come out of deep mourning within a few days and get on with life, even though they have lost their sparkle. If your deceased girl had an infectious problem, I would recommend to wait for 2-3 weeks before bonding (quarantine), unless your girl is acutely pining and needs a companion asap as a life saver. Thankfully, this is fairly rare.

West midlands. She is eating but hiding. Thanks ill put her a cuddle toy in now.

Being withdrawn is normal for the mourning phase. it is not easy to deal with for a human. :(

The RSPCA Walsall offers dating for with both neutered boars or sows at the fosterer's under expert supervision. They can be a bit slow in coming back to you, as they are entirely vounteer staffed, but they will come back!

Honeybunnies near Leicester are also very experienced and offer dating with either gender.

There is also The Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue in Kidsgrove/Stoke-on-Trent; they have also got neutered boars:

I have rehomed from all three over the years and can recommend them all most warmly. you will in safe hands with any of them!
