I lost my beautiful Daisy pig almost 1 week ago which has left Maple on her own. She is 7 years old and I am not planning on getting anymore guinea pigs unfortunately. I dont deal with the loss well at all!
Maple has always been quieter and timid (I rescued her at 3.5 years old)

She has been noticeably quieter without daisy but some mornings shes does still come up to the bars looking for her veg.

She has lost a little weight and I've noticed her poos are soft. They are broken up with her walking/lying on them but the whole ones seem to be a bit tear shaped.

I'm wondering if ive maybe been giving her too much veg? Difficult to adjust to just 1 pig. She is still eating her nuggets and hay although I notice I have to top it up A LOT less now. I'm wondering if she's eating enough hay. I see her at the hay so I know shes eating it.

She had a bad episode of bloat this time last year so odd poos are very concerning to me.

Has anyone got any advice? Will give her some probiotic just in case.

Photo attached, bit yucky, sorry!

So sorry you lost Daisy. I think she is feeling the loss too. If you are concerned I would take her to the vets for a check up. A probiotic might help settle her tummy. Wondered if you had thought about fostering a piggie from a rescue with the reassurance that you can hand back when the time comes? It may be good for Mabel and help another piggie too?

I had her at the vet a fee days ago and he was i unconcerned at the moment. I will keep and eye and if things get worse, I'll head back to vet with her.

I live in Scotland. There are limited rescues and nowhere available that I'm aware of to foster. And I would probably get far too attached to the piggy anyway.

I think I would withhold green stuff for a day or so and see if the poops settle with just hay pellets and probiotics.

Yes, I think I would end up getting too attached too. Cornwall is the same, only two rescues down here one 60 miles away and the other 25 miles. Hope she settles soon x
