I have two young boars Archie and Bernard who are sharing a pen(the boys in my avatar). Archie is a couple of months old now and Bernard would be about 5-6 months old.

I woke up this morning to Bernard loudly popcorning and doing laps of the pen, racing up and down the ramp then popcorning in the kitchenette. Archie appeared to be watching bemused as Bernard bounced backwards and forwards, like some crazy pinball machine. I couldn't stop smiling and felt a huge sense of relief.

Bernard and Archie only met a couple of weeks ago. Prior to Archie's arrival Bernard was a quiet but cheery pig, who pocorned regularly, unless he was being hastled by my other boar, Howard (Howard is now living solo for a while as he became agressive and was displaying the seperate them now behaviours). A little after this the whirlwind that is Archie arrived. He is one loud and bossy little pig (irrepressable and awesome). Bernard has been very quiet since his arrival and I have been watching them carefully and weighing them regularily (Bernard has maintained his weight and Archie is growing fast). I have made sure there were two of everything but was becoming concerned that Bernard was depressed or that Archie was bullying Bernard, or at least stressing him out with his constant squeaky chatter.

So this morning was such a relief, and I have noticed that they are spending more time closer together. Fingers crossed they settle more

I had been really worried (i am a stress bunny), especially after I found a small scab on Bernards shoulder, it has healed well. I'm not sure whether it was Howard or Archie but it had me worried and I was thinking I might have three boys living alongside together, I'm so glad its looking less likely.

Yay! Archie has worked his charm on Bernard! Thats so lovely and a big relief for you!

I worry about my young boars getting along - they're both around 4 months but completely different personalities like your two. Otis is like Archie - full of beans, a chatterbox who doesn't stay still wheras Wilbur is more placid and nervy (he's the cuddly one) and they often wiggle their bums at each other and do displays of dominance. I get quite worried that they may fall out at this hormonal age so get relieved every time i see them popcorning - they do it together now and have little happy fits prancing around the cage. :)) Fingers crossed they can learn to love each other!

It's funny Bernard is cuddly too, he likes to snuggle up and will fall asleep on my chest he is also a major licker/kisser. He's my first guinea pig and i feel a bit protective of him cause he's such a placid, happy, clever and adventuous piggy. He popcorned so much when he was younger so sitting quite was a bit of a change.

He was a pet store pig (big country petstore/stock food shop), and I fell in love with him [particularly when I heard his story. When his litter came in, he escaped and avoided capture. Living in the store (a large warehouse style shed). The staff left food and water out for him. They knew he was about because customers reported seeing a black shape scurry away and they kept finding chew holes in the feed bags. It took two-three weeks before they could catch him. They had named him "our little rogue"

I do go on. I'm just so happy to see him happyagain. Hope Wilbuir and Otis stay happy with each other too :)

Awwww what a lovely story! Not surprised you're protective of him! These are my first piggies - I saw otis in the petshop when I popped in for hamster food and he came and squeeked at me through the bars. I spent all week thinking about him, made an excuse to go back to the petshop the next weekend and they'd all been sold except for him and one other (wilbur) so they both came home with me. :) Had a bit of explaining to do when my boyfriend came home!

Keep us posted how they get along! X
