Came home today to find Bert collapsed in the run barely breathing, not sure if it was old age that got to him as we think he was around 4 years old. He was our first piggie and the one that started our affection with guinea pigs.
RIP Bert you will be missed

Your first piggies are always extra special and they will always hold a special place in your heart.

We are absolutely devastated he was such a little character who was always begging for attention. I feel so bad that I may have missed some signs of illness as have been concentrating on Bart and Bibi as they have both been ill
 
Thank you for your kind messages, really struggling to understand what happened to him he was running around his cage this morning begging for food, came home this afternoon to find him lying on his side gulping for air every so often then he was gone.
 
I am so very sorry for the loss of your handsome piggy. I know it really hurts and the first ones are so special as they start off the love for piggies. He had the most amazing life with you remember that. They pain will ease in time and will be replaced by happy memories of the time you shared. Huge hugs

So sorry for your loss, Bert was absolutely gorgeous, he will remain in your heart forever.

:( SO very sorry for your loss. It sounds like he had a stroke. They suddenly come out of the blue, with no warning at all, so you could not have done anything to prevent it. I lost a boy to a stroke at only 4.5 years old.

I'm so sorry for your loss hurt looks so sweet & happy in your photos you oversaly gave him a fantastic life & he in turn has done a wonderful thing in opening your eyes to the wonderful world of guniea pig, he will be remembered with every piggie you have, I hope you can find comfort that he waited for you to come back to say good night popcorn free burt
 
I'm so so sorry, poor wee Bert :( it must have been such a shock, my thoughts are with you at this difficult time x
