Last night quite late I noticed blood in his cage. There were 2 or 3 patches. I picked him up and realized it was in his urine. He looked at me as if to say "what the heck Mum. Give me my supper!" He ate fine and was lively. Anyways this morning I rang Simons practice only to be told they had no vet there today! So Bertie had to go to my vet..:... We had to wait half an hour as some poor cat was in emergency but that didnt matter. The vet felt his tummy and listened to it, said it wasnt tender and felt perfectly normal. He has had no blood today. She has given him Baytril for a week. Now is that the one that upsets their tums? As the receptionist at the cat and rabbit clinic said Bertie probably needed metacam which is a painkiller/anti inflammatory. I did ask the vet if baytril would upset his tum and she said not if he was eating properly. we are just going shopping so will get some apple or blackcurant juice to dilute the baytril.
Thanks for reading, and can you advise about the baytril before I panic and rush over to see Debbie...malletheadmallethead

I am sorry Bertie is not well. The blood would indicate a urinary tract infection. When I give my piggies baytrill I also give them a probiotic to help line their gut. When my piggies have had an infection they just have baytrill and not metcam.

Baytril is an Antibiotic and will fight against an infection. Metacam is a painkiller and anti inflammatory so is often prescribed at the same time as an antibiotic to reduce inflammation and reduce any pain. If he begins to squeak when weeing/pooing it will be worth going back to your vet and asking for some

Baytril can upset tummies of some pigs, so it is worth giving a pro-biotic around 1 hour after.

Hope Bertie gets well soon x

Havent got any probiotic at the moment. Going to give him some baytril in a minute and get some probiotic tomorrow.

ps is it pro c probiotic from p @ h?

thanks will try to get something tomorrow. Dont think Bertie loves me any more, I diluted the baytril with apple juice, even dipped the end of the syringe into applejuice syringed a bit and then a bit more in his mouth, and then gave him a slice of cucumber....inbreeding
