Bertie - the best Guinea Pig in the World

Our handsome Bertie passed to the bridge today :(

He had lost some weight so we bought him into the house with 2 of his friends (he had 6 altogether!) He was eating well and seemed alert. We took him to the vets for a check up and he has been on Baytril for just over a week.

We came home from my OH's auntie's today to find he had passed in his sleep with his girls by his side.

We requested a post mortem as we have lost 3 Guineas now in 4 weeks! :cry:

The vet did it straight away and found he had died of kidney failure - either caused by old age or something he was born with. There was nothing we could have done.

Bertie was removed from a house by the RSPCA where he was living with a rabbit who was bullying him. His ears had the scar wounds to show this :( We had no idea how old he was but he soon adapted to having 6 wives to live with and looked like the proudest piggy in the world! :) He truly was the sweetest piggy in the world. He was affectionate to both other piggies and us and will always hold a special place in our hearts. He even travelled with me to my Grandparents with me on Christmas day and got spoilt :)

Sleep tight you amazing boy. Thank you for letting us be part of your life. I hope you had fun here. Sorry we weren't here for your last moments but I am so glad Dotty and Maggie were there with you.

Me, Daddy, Pip, Aggy, Sadie, Daphne, Maggie and Dotty will really miss you. See you again one day baby. x Say hello to Oakley and Whisper for us. x
 
He was gorgeous. I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost one 2 days ago and that is bad enough but to loose 3 in a short space of time you must be heartbroken (((hugs))) to you all. x
 
I'm sorry to hear about little Bertie. No wonder he lived happily with his female friends - he was a handsome boy xx
 
Aww, sorry to hear you lost such a lovely piggy 8...8... I don't know if it's me or are we losing a lot of piggies right now? 8... 8... 8...
 
I am so sorry for your loss.
Sound's like you had a very very special little man.
What you remember is hunni is that you gave him a second chance in life and he died with family and friends he could call his own.

R.I.P Little man, may you watch over your family and wives from rainbow bridge that love you and gave you that second chance in life.

I reckon all the girly pigs will be fighting over Bertie at Rainbow Bridge, what a lovely handsome boy!

At least he had a good life once he came to you, despite his rough start in another home, and you should feel very proud to have given him such happiness. Sounds like his girls were there for him at the end, they definitely know when one of their friends is passing away.

Sorry to hear about Bertie. At least you can take comfort in the fact that he had the best life possible with you (six wives should indeed keep a chap happy!). He was indeed a very handsome piggy and deserved no less.
 
Thank you all so much for your comments. We were VERY blessed to have known him. There was something extremely special about him. It amazes me how trusting of us he was even though his start in life was awful.

I do feel comforted as I know I could not have loved him any more than I did. I am so happy he went peacefully, in the house with his girls. He certainly spoilt the days leading up to his passing :) The way every piggy should be :)

I'm so sorry, RIP Lovely, Handsome Bertie.

Every day I seem to log on here and find that there are more angels in the sky. At least the night sky will be shining brighter from the new star Bertie. x:0:0:0:0:(

RIP Bertie run free have fun at the bridge with your friends and popcorn with them and munch on all the clover and green grass as well, so sadly will you be missed but NEVER forgotten xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am so sorry for your loss of Bertie, he was a gorgeous boy and you made him very happy after what he had been through.
