My little Buddy is going to be neutered sometime in the near future, but I have heard lots of different "best" ages! He is already over 650g (he's going to be a biiiiiig boy!), and he is 8 weeks old today.
I want it to be done as soon as possible so he hasn't got to be alone for much longer, but of course his health comes first. I am home from uni on 1st November for a week, and he will be 15 weeks old then - will that be an ok age? As I want it to be done while I am home so I can be there to drop him off and pick him up, and so he can live inside in my room while he recovers.
I'm so wary about getting it done, as I lost my darling Spud two weeks after he was neutered and am so terrified the same will happen. I know the chances are slim, and the vets have promised I can call/pop in whenever during the day so I can check he is ok.
Thankyou :)

The age depends on the boys weight, health, and very much on the operating vet - he has to be confident that your boy has an excellent chance of making it. Most vets wait until the testicles have descended.

The youngest pig I had had neutered was 3-4 months old, so about 16 weeks or so. The rest have been 6 months plus. As Wiebke said, it depends on the vet, but 6 months seems to be the most common figure.
