I have been offered a 4 month old guineawig boar from a friend however she feels that as Herbert is 6 months old it is a very difficult age to pair. What do you guys think? Am I better off finding a baby friend rather than a boy the same age.

Thank you.

It can depend hugely on the personality of the boys, if your friend in nearby could you have a boar dating session to see if it will work?

I would say that Herbert is quite submissive he was bullied a bit in his last home and he tends to hide away alot.....I suppose worse comes the worse is that I have two hutches :D my plan is to put them together over the summer and put a ramp between them.

I suppose its whether the 4 month old is dominant or not - they are both reaching their hormonal stage in their lives and it could cause confrontation.

I've paired boars that ages before but it doesnt mean it'll always work and it is dependent on each others personalities.

I have two guinea pigs that''ll both be three next year and I'd trust them both to pair with anything as I know what they are like - whereas I have a 7 month old who I recently paired with a 10 week old as I felt there would be trouble if I got him a friend closer to his age.

I always work on personality of each individual piggy. You could introduce them on neutral ground and see how they get on. Good luck, hope its a success.

Yep definitely depends on personality. I have this real easy going 4 year old boar and he will get on with anyone, no problems and then I have Jeffrey lol He is 3 years old and a pain in the behind, took ages to find him a friend but at least he isn't on his own any more. We paired him with a baby boar, now the baby boar is almost 2 years old and they do get into little arguments but other than that it's a good partnership.
