Hi guys,

I'm still getting used to buying veg for my new piggies and stupidly I forgot to stock up today. I've got some pepper and cucumber (though they've had cucumber for the past few days) and I had some Romaine Lettuce Hearts but the best before date says yesterday. Can I still feed them some of it? xx

Ive given mine celery that has been a few days over the best before date and they were fine! I wouldn't worry unless the veg actually looks rotten and generally not nice!

How I judge it is - If I wouldnt eat it, then I wouldnt expect the boys to.

If it still looks edible to you, then youre ok.

I think 'best before' dates are the most ridiculous thing ever. They cause so much wasted food.

As long as it looks, smells and feels alright (give it a squeeze, as long as it's not mushy) then it's absolutely fine :)

I've got into the habit of taking things out of their packets with BBD's on them and putting them into bags so that my sister doesn't get rid of anything out of date.

As long as you use common sense, ie if it's furry or squishy, leave it out! I don't go by dates at all! (Sorry if that makes me gross haha)

If the veg has not gone off you can eat and feed it. The vitamin content will be lower than fresh. Use your common sense.
