3 wks ago i collected a very young sow (she was very un-planned) - i was given very little info to go on other than the person who contacted me told me she was 6wks old and the person i collected her from said 9wks old

When i got home from a 5hr round trip i weighed her immediately - she was tiny and weighed a mere 200g - obviously not 6 or 9wks old - more 3wks old or younger :{

Introduction of veg has been slow over the last 3wks with only tiny amounts of new veg added every few days and checking her poops daily. Unfortunately two days ago i noticed her poops were very soft and un-formed so i took away all veg and have had her on a hay and pellet only diet.

I took away the new hay i bought (i bought some apple and carrot timothy hay on thursday and all pigs had some in their hay racks) - can a new hay type cause soft poops? Reason i ask is because ALL my other pigs have had a selection of hays since being very young and none have ever suffered from soft poops.

Ive also removed the excel blackcurrent and oregano pellets i bought and she's on just original burgess pellets or the time being - in the last 24hrs ive seen an improvement - her poops are still soft but now have shape (even if they are clumped together - there's definite sausage shapes there)

She now weighs 280g (she's actually lost 7g since last wednesday - but i suspect this is because she had soft poops) - so are there any foods i can give her that will aid in boosting her weight? She was having small amount of sweetcorn in with her veg - but as she's on a no-veg diet until her poops are back to normal then a limited amount until fully introduced again - i was wondering what else i could give her along with her hay/pellets?

I'm sorry but other than critical care ( which you can either syringe or put it in a bowl for her to lick ) I can't really think of anything. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon x

You could give her dry bran and porridge oats, both she will be able to eat and will help her add weight.

lol Vicky - not sure how i missed your post

she does indeed have a name - Tulisa x) She's been getting on fine - she's still not gone in with Wexford yet because ive been treating her for a fungal infection :{ it's only by accident that i noticed it really (yet another snippet of info witheld by those who gave her up).

She was getting on really great with her veg - then i noticed soft poops - so she hasn't really had any veg for the last week :0 I weighed her yesterday and she now weighs 313g - so the dry oats must be a winner since she's been having those since monday :)

So once i know she's rid of her fungal and eating veg ok - it'll be introduction time.

I'm gonna try and get some pics of her in the next few days because she's turned in to a right ball of fluff and I'm intrigued to know what breed she could be x)
