Hi! I am looking for a food my guinea pigs will love that I can buy in bulk for a good price. I have looked at Exel nuggets but am not quite sure and could use an opinion from someone else. I am new to guinea pigs and want the best for them. I have until Christmas, when I get my piggies, to decide.

Thanks!

i recommend oxbow cavy cuisine pellets. they are timothy hay based. all proper pellets made for guinea pigs should be made specifically with their dietary requirements in mind so then it's just a personal choice which to use. they only need a small amount of pellets anyway so a bag should last a while. :)

Thank you! You always seem to come to my rescue, so thank you very much! :)

Most piggies get vitamin c from their vitamin c high veggies such as bell pepper. If you look in the vegetables thread you will see a good thread on vitamin c vegetables.

Most pellets are not that hight in vitamin c, as it had a short shelf life in pellets/ water. If you are worried about vitamin c, you can always give a crushed oxbow animal vitamin c tablet on a slice of cucumber, or crushed in a little water in a syringe and fed that way, but if you feed a varied diet, you shouldnt have to worry too much. My more fussy or poorly pigs over the years have a vitamin c tablet daily just to be safe, as Honor (my piggie) has a problem with absorbing vitamin c, so she will always need a daily tablet.

Hope this helps.
