Best friends forever?

Our two boys have never been what you would call best of friends. When we first got them we witnessed guinea pig dominance displays for the first time, as I'd only had two single boars when I was a child, (poor things I know now must have been lonely) :-(
It was that behaviour that actually bought me to the forum looking for advice. We got a bigger cage, two of everything, increased the floor time and things generally calmed down, although they've never appeared to particularly enjoy each others company, and would just tend to stay out of each others way in the cage a lot of the time.

Anyway, they are about a year and three months old now, and over the last few weeks they seem to have grown a bit closer. There is still rumble strutting and little fall outs, they aren't really what I would call BEST friends, but they seem to be spending a lot more time sleeping or sitting next to each other and tolerate each other in a way that they never used to. It's so adorable for me to see after all this time I had to share!

These were taken on three consecutive nights.

p.s they have lots of hideys, why they choose to sleep there I don't know, but I enjoy the photo opportunities!
 
I have the exact same thing with my boars - they are father and son!and teddy - the dad is very grumpy and dominant,and tatty just keeps out of his way.

They sometimes sleep close together,they eat beside each other and eat hay together.

But I'm happy to know that they may become closer because I was actually starting to worry a bit!:))
 
I've had my little boy since August to go with my older boy who was 1 and half years old after we lost his mate :(
And just recently I've witnessed exactly the same as you, I've had a tough 6 months on and off with my baby boy being hormonal and basically all the dominance things boars do, and like * have hideys, 2 of everything and now are chooseing to sleep together. Something is in the air I thing :))

I do think they settle down as they get older....... even my two little girls (sisters) are now sleeping and resting near each other more and more :)

Tango and Cash are exactly like this, they'd never been snuggle-up buddies or anything like that, but now they're just over a year and are starting to enjoy being a lot closer to each other and sharing the house to sleep in! On our last trip to the vets Tango even hid under Cash which was adorable!
 
Thanks for all your messages. It’s reassuring to hear it’s not just ours who haven’t always been living together in bliss, obviously they haven’t been actually fighting or in any harm, but I’ve always just wanted them to get on a little better so I feel they are both as happy as they could be. I know they can fall out at anytime, but I do hope they continue to get closer.

Marilyn is dominant, and he’s pretty grumpy too, but he’s so brave and adventurous I love him to bits, meanwhile Audrey is quite nervous and I just want to wrap him up in cotton wool! (although he certainly stands his ground when there’s food involved!)

Here’s to all our couples of piggies getting friendlier as they grow up, and long into their old age! :-)

Thanks for sharing. My two boys going through teenage period ATM and its constant chasing and establishing the dominance . And I just hope they will be friends one day just like yours. :)
