I use Natures Own Pets' XLMeadow Hay and I think it's fab. Not too expensive, free delivery, dust extracted, long strands, organic and from ancient hay meadows so a real nice mix of grasses and relatively few bits of moss/thistle etc but there is some due to the organicness!
I use pets at home Timothy hay. It is quite costly for the amount you get but a £4 bag lasts me a month - and I fill two hay racks with it a couple of times a day. I did try a meadow hay - too dusty- and a organic hay from a local farm-wasn't impressed with the quality of it so that's just sitting in my garage....... and I also tried a hay from another farm which I use for my rabbit but Mo didn't take to it.
I feed oxbow (most of their hay and pellets are oxbow brand) and alfalfa king timothy hays. It's expensive but seems to be good quality and my piggies love it. I make up a big mix of the various hays and have a day time mix and a night time mix. They are both made with different hays so they don't get bored. Mine are not big fans of meadow hay though but like oat hay or orchard grass for a treat every couple of days.
Just make sure its good quality. things to look out for in good quality hay are ..................
it should smell sweet yes that's it get your nose stuck in
should never be able to smell dust or mould this is a big no no
don't buy to cheap as this may turn out to be false economy
I'm doing an article on selecting the very best hay for your piggy baby
I bulk buy, 9.5kg bales from hay-and-straw and now I have 4 piggies it goes down a bit quicker so I'm going to start buying two at once though I do have a shed to store it in which helps
