Hi there,

I'm new to this board (just joined) I'm looking for some advice. I have a boar aged 5 months who was living with a 5yr old boar but sadly the older one has left me for rainbow bridge. I do believe piggies need company and I am just wondering what is going to be the best type of bond to try, with regards to the age of the new piggy. I have two sows as well but was thinking more of bonding with a new boar. Any advice would be greatly appreciated by me and Bertie, many thanks.

Hi Clare,

Welcome to the forum! I would bond with a boar who is around one year old. Your litte guy hasn't gone through his hormonal stage as yet. That comes at 6-12 months so I would go for a boar who has already gone through it.

So sorry for your loss, hope your little guy is coping ok. :)

Hi Louise,

Thank you for the welcome and your reply. That confirms what I was thinking, funny enough I saw a lone 2 year old boar last week who was up for adoption, might see if he is still available.

Little one seems a bit quiet so think he will benefit from a new friend.
Thanks again, Clare

Oh definitly. It's amazing the change in them when they get a pal. I have a lone girl at the mo and also a neutered boar to go with her in a couple of weeks but she is very quiet at the minute. I am hoping he will cheer him up when I can put them together.

Good luck with your search and keep us posted. You'll have to post pics up of your little guy! :)

Your best bet is to get an older boar to match him with as has already been said but it will still need to work on personality. If you contact a rescue they will help you. Where abouts are you?

Thanks for the posts, the rescue centres all have bonded boars only but will keep trying for a single. I'm also in touch with a couple of breeders so hope to have a new friend soon.

Just one other question, does anyone have a trio of boars?

Thanks again, Clare

A very few have, but two has a far better success rate. If three fall out, you may end up with three single boars!

Make sure you try your boar with several boys, if possible, to see which works best in terms of character.

I know of three people with trios but as far as I am aware all the trios are brothers and have alwyas lived together.

I had a trio living happily together, all adult boars and hadn't grown up together but I think I was just lucky - I tried it as one had fallen out with his original buddy, and oddly they all got on ok but they are all older boys and quite laid back. I wouldn't usually recommend it or try it, especially if they haven't grown up together - might end up with 3 single boars (as I have previously!)

I have a single neutered boar looking for a home and possible pairing,he's about 8 months old.

I also have 5 adult boars incoming this friday,a trio and two singles, the trio are not getting on apparently,no great surprise really.
