Where is the best place to buy a guinea pig travel cage suitable for 4 piggles...?

I dont want to spend alot on it.

Have a look on ebay. I got a large pet carrier for the grand sum of £12 including postage! ;)

I have been looking on there, zooplus, pet supermarket, they seem one extreme or another in terms of size, i guess i am looking for something about 70 - 80cm long really, will keep an eye out on gumtree aswell, only other thing is a cat basket type of thing....

I am in Norfolk, so not within collection/delivery distance, i dread to think what the postage would be. But thank you anyway xx

You need a 'atlas 20' I think it's called... I can fit 5 fat piggies in there comfortably... It's also hugos carrier so can fit a good 6kg bunny in there...

There not cheap but they are the best carriers...!
They have a door on the top aswell so you can mooch in at them...
x

What about a decent second hand 100cm cage ?/
I have these just for transporting more than two piggies as our carriers only comfortably fit two.

We can't fit anything too big in the car though that's the problem....

Can anyone tell me the sizes of this:

Clare, is this the one: Ferplast Atlas 20: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

Wait there I'll link you to p@r...
This is the one I'm on about... They don't take up much space and they are really sturdy...

You can get them off a few sites but just can't remember which ones... :))

Select atlas 20 from the drop down bar... So you can see the sizes... As the 10 is only good for two really...

And that holds 5 pigs? ground space doesn't seem any bigger than the travel cage we have now.... they will be in it for up to 3 hours at a time when going to and from the caravan, do you think that would be ok for them for that long?

I squished 6 (quite fat) sows in there the other day... And drove them to Wales... So that was like a 2 hour journey...

All they do when your in a car is squish up together...
Are you deffo looking at the measurements for the 20 and not the 10... Either that or I have a 30... :))

Here's a photo...

Smallest pig 1.2kg
Largest pig 1.5kg

Four in there ;):))

Thanks for taking that hun,(see you put ginger in there especially for me :)) ) poor piggies probably think their off to the vets now ha ha. That seems about the same size as the travel cage we have to be honest, so we'll see how they get on in that, probably fight and squabble for 2 and a half hours lol.

Will keep my eye out though. x

Cat carriers are the best for my pigs. They will squish together in the back and I can stick a clipable bowl on the cage bars and a water bottle. I can also put a giant pile of hay in there. I am in America so it is really hard to recommend a specific carrier. Or you can get a small dog kennel. Or you can make a c and c carrier.

I just use a cat carrier, my cat's was £15 from P@H so i'm sure they're cheaper online and i won't be shocked if they're a little cheaper than piggie ones.

have you thought of picking up a zoozone1 as a carier? it fits lovely in a car and its small enough for one person to carry and they are super cheap on fleabay and scumtree!

Would a zoozone 1 be big enough for 4 piggies to be in for up to 3 hours at a time?

The seller replied to my email, someone else is going to look at it tonight!

72x46 I think are its dimensions. I had three pigs live in this for a week and they were fine and could walk around a bit. Zoozone 2 is equally a good choice and is bigger but harder to find and one person would struggle to carry it. If its just for travelling I dont think they need that much space tbh. My two boys travelled 1.5 hours in something a thirds of the size and they didnt even use that space! I suggested the zz1 as you said 70-80cm :-) plus its waterproof and super easy to clean and holds a water bottle securely but its easy to remove for car stops for example but then to remove for driving :-) the food trough that comes with them would be great for cucumber too!

As bad as it sounds guinea pigs have lived in smaller cages to decent ages so a few hours wont hurt. My three girls lived with a rabbit in an 80cm cage and theyre healthy and were healthy then (I didnt do this btw!)!

Compared to the sizes of so called pet carriers the zz1/2 are huge! :)

I actually have a spare zz1 but postage would be stupid!

Well that other was is gone now, so will keep my eye out for Zoozone's.

Thanks Bekki. x

You said you had 4 girls? (if i remember rightly) Could you not just put 2 in each normal carrier :) Just for the jorney, ofcourse. :) Might save alot of money.

3 girls and a neutered boy, we have thought of doing this if we can't find a bigger one, but its the space issue we only have small cars..... plus we only have one carrier (60cm x 35) so would still need to buy a new one anyway if we had 2 in each. We'll sort something out.

When I travelled with my 3 boys still as a trio, I didn't have a big enough carrier so popped them in my small dog cage

I have been looking at cat/dog carriers too, the 3 of them were fine in the cage we had, they are so used to travelling as we do it on a weekly basis, they dont snuggle up, but usually lay in a corner each and go to sleep, but newby has never traveled and is quite jumpy and nervous and as she darts about she puts everyone else on alert and on edge, i am just worried that they are going to squabble the whole way there and snap at each other..... would you say 60cm x 35cm possibly slightly bigger is ok for 4? I just think something bigger would reduce the risk of squabbling.

where in the UK are you? PM me if you want ... just curious ... if you're close you can have my zoozne cage

I'm in Norfolk hun, miles away from teaside (sp?) - going by the rabbit thread yesterday. Thank you anyway for the kind offer. x
