wheres the best place to get good quality but affordable timothy hay? i use it as bedding and feeding for my skinny piggies so go through it quickly!

I use hayforpets online. They sell 9.5 kilos for £16. I get the ings hay which is an organic media hay but they have Timothy hay too.

Is it not a bit coarse as bedding? Could cause eye pokes as I don't think they have eyelashes.Think meadow hay better as bedding then Timothy hay in a Hay rack

Wilkinsons do it cheap I think its about £2.60 something :)
But yeah Meadow is better and softer, plus its cheaper at £2.35 (I may be wrong but its around that!) I think you get 1.5kg of it

oh great thank you il take a look in there then :) il get some meadow hay too ! x

People usually use vetbed as bedding for skinny pigs don't they?
I have soft fleece cosys and tunnels for them, but i use hay and newspapers in there cage too, i don't like using vetbed and fleece because it has to be washed constantly

I agree that meadow hay is softer for bedding and mine have this in their hay kitchens and their other hay (timothy, oat, etc) is in fleecy hay bags and I buy it from the Hay Experts. All my pigs including my skinnies are bedded on a mixture of fleece and vet bed and I do feel that it is kinder for the skinnies' skin. However, meadow hay is better than stalkier hays or shavings. I wash my fleece and vetbed regularly but I don't think it is high maintenance bedding as for me it is what I feel is best for them. Yes there are times when we have run out of undies as we are washing their fleeces but it just takes a bit of organisation ;)

Thanks Helen where do you get your vet bed from? Can it be made to the size of the cage? and how often do you wash it?

I get vetbed from dogsproductdirect. I use a layer of towels underneath. It has to bed washed every three days. I am so happy you are considering vetbed. I love it. You buy it in pieces.

I bought it from Jollyes on a roll but am lucky that the receptionist at my vets gets me scraps from dog shows. Lots of people on here use it though and can recommend some places, I know you can get it online much cheaper. If you look in the bedding section there should be some links.

tesco do meadow hay as well and is really soft and not too pricey. I get it now and then as a change for them

We get soft meadow hay from www.dustfreehay.co.uk The girls love it and it is very soft at moment- They do Timothy also :)

It looks expensive but the Meadow Hay is compacted in a box, the box lasts around 2-2.5 weeks with 4 mouths at the moment :)

how many pigs do you have? Just trying to work out what it would cost me. At the minute i spend about 6 quid a week on hay

Back to original question - best place to get Timothy Hay. Biscandmatt 's post lists some good places.

I got some Timothy Hay from Deans Farm. I am happy with the quality but was surprised to see that it was imported from America. My piggies adore Timothy Hay so I get through quite a lot of it. I need to think of my airmiles.

The next time I order some I am going to try ...

http://www.timothyhay.co.uk/products/5kg-of-timothy-hay

... as this supplier has been recommended by quite a few forum members and their Timothy comes from Scotland.

All the piggies at Dindy Towers can testify to the quality of this and the House Elf likes the price.

I currently get mine from wilkinsons its 2.60 a kilo. As I have a lot of pigs I am considering looking for somewhere cheaper... I think I'm going to try one of the online shops!
