A Guinea pig i just got sadly passed away after a few days of having her. Are there some better places besides petstores to adopt a pair?

I would recommend a shealter, but sometimes they dont have young guinea pigs. Look for people who are giving theirs away. Sorry about your guinea pig:soz:

Most is not all rescues are closed at the moment unfortunately. As others have said I would strongly recommend adopting one as they tend to be much healthier than pet store ones and many are already used to human interaction and are spayed/neutered.

When they open back up, I would recommend Blue Cross or Battersea! There's also smaller rodent-specific local rescues everywhere if you have a little search.

For the meantime, if you have the funds I would strongly recommend sponsoring one in a shelter. Most nonprofits are facing massive losses as people aren't donating in the crisis, and if they close down there's a chance all these animals will be put down.

Hi!

I am very sorry for your loss!

Most rescues have at the moment closed down completely or run only very reduced adoption services with strict social distancing. That means that any rescue dating is cancelled for the time being.

However you have to contact the individual rescues to find out.
As you mention pet stores instead of pet shops, I assume that you are based in the USA or Canada?
Here is a list of recommended good welfare standard and practice non-kill rescues: Guinea Lynx :: Rescue Organizations
