Hello,

I will be in contact with my vet again tomorrow and want to ask them to provide me with some emergency feed. I have tried Critical Care before (the original) and all my pigs in the past especially this one absolutely hate it and it takes about an hour to get a couple of ml in her!

I’ve done some research on here and noticed people have had good success with Emeraid? Not sure I have spelt that correctly. I just wish there was something I could get in her easily when she’s down and CC just was impossible. CC do a couple of flavours too dont they? I thought I’d ask before I speak to the vets because I can ask them!…

Thanks,

Vets probably don't stock all the different brands of recovery food so you'll be limited in what you can buy over the counter. My old vets used to stock Science Selective Recovery feed, which my piggies preferred to Critical Care. The vets I used most recently were out of Critical Care so sold me some Burgess Excel "Dual Care" which can be used soaked and mushed up. Others here have found their piggies like Emeraid, I think it is a bit more calorific too. You're right there are some different flavours of CC but again they won't necessarily be all available at your vet; there is also a 'Fine Grind' version but I don't know if it is better or worse than the normal version in any way. Hope you can find something your piggy will eat!
(When I had pigs on supplementary feeding long term I used to buy the Recovery Feed online, boxes and bigger bags are cheaper than single sachets pro-rata.)

Any of the brands will do. Critical Care herbivore aniseed flavour is the widest available but not to every piggy's taste. However, it is cheaper, and longer lasting. You can mix in a bit of banana into it to cover the flavour.

Emeraid is available in less flavours in the UK than the US, but it generally goes down better with more piggies. It has however got a tendency of clogging up the syringes more quickly and it goes off more quickly. It is already enhanced with probiotics etc. so you have to be careful to not feed anything else as it can cause an adverse reaction (see their label).

Generally, getting a fresh batch online of what you prefer is best. ;)

Brilliant, thankyou! :) she’s absolutely terrible for anything, doesn’t even like Metacam, never had a pig dislike that stuff. For some reason the only thing she will take off me medical wise is Metatone
