jut wondering whats the best way to give hay at the moment i give them hay all in the top back end of the hutch and then soem more down the bottom in the hay rack just wondered if there a better way without wasting it as they tend to just sit on the hay i chuck in the back end and pee on it clever pigs :-p the hay in the hay rack is good tho but i carnt fit another in the back end whats everyone else do ?

i put it all in the sleeping area of my 6ft hutch and throw it all out daily and replace as i have heard horror stories about hay racks plus hay here is super cheap where I get it

i do that too i can get a big bale for a fiver last awhile with 2 piggies its no problem just think there a bit daft weeing on it ;)

Mine also have trays with bedding and hay in. Most of the wee's end up on the bedding (I use Fitch, just as an example), and the poops are fine on the hay - it won't mess it up. I do however pull it out and replace with fresh each day, along with clearing out poops and any Fitch that's been wee'd on. Thing is, they love to rummage around in it, on it, under it and get all excited when I put a big pile in. It's wasteful at times, but they love it.

the main lot of hay is in a large garden potting tray. then other hays on top of hideys, in kitchen roll tubes, in tunnels etc..

i don't think there is a way to avoid going through a massive amount of hay :)) i don't see it as a waste though because they love to burrow and snuggle in it which is enrichment for them :luv:

i don't use hayracks personally because they don't seem very safe to me and i'd be so scared of the piggies getting trapped in them.

I use a hay rack for my guinea pigs, I'm not worried about them getting stuck in it because the gaps are pretty small.
My rabbits have their hay in their litter trays and I just throw it out when it gets wet but I find that putting it at one side of the litter tray keeps it mostly dry as they pee on the other side while they eat! Maybe you could try that with your piggies?
