I am looking for a wife for chesney and i was going to take him to the rescue to find him a friend. but what would happen if i brought a new wife to him here at home?

i know loads of people do this but what do you do if they don't bond? because we don't have alot of room here.

how successful are most bondings?

my options are to take ches to a rescue or have a wife brought here. what do you think would be best?

if i brought a new piggie here how do i bond them? i know the cage and everything has to be disinfected and neutral. i would do this and get new blankets etc and two of everything. but then how do i introduce them?

Most boar/sow pairings work well BUT there are exceptions & if it didn't work you'd either have to return the sow, which imo isn't fair on either of them or you'd have to keep them separate but then you're faced with getting the sow a friend & still one for Chesney, i personally would take him to a rescue & let him choose for himself :)

Bonding, wherever it's done should be done on neutral ground with food, veggies, hay & nothing that has 1 opening in it so neither can block each other in :)

yes, having to return the sow if things didn't work out is what i was worried about as i would not only feel awful, but i'd want to keep her, and then i'd be trying to find them both friends! and we don't have the room for that! we have decided on one wife for ches as we think that would be best in the space we have at the moment.

it's just frustrating because neither of us drive so we will have to get a taxi to and from the rescue to take ches, so it has to be fairly close to us, and i keep finding so many lovely piggies close to us, but just too far in a taxi!

what happens when i take him to the rescue then? will they introduce them and see how they get on? they should know if they are going to be ok won't they?

and they need to come back to a neutral cage and two of everything etc?

chesney's wife will be my first female pet, i've always got boys! but i'm excited that i can now buy pink things aswell!

The rescue should do exactly that & everyone, including yourself will be able to see how they are together, tho i will say in my experience young sows (under 4months) will accept a boar (or sow) & normally most boars will accept any sow. I've had problems with older sows not accepting boys :)
