I was just charmed and surprised by this myself by my newest girl. My others are very affectionate and we even have a boy whom will sing and purr when you hold him. I never knew these babies kiss though! I got my latest two and unsure of their background other then they were babies from different places and needed extra attention. My little new baby, Salem, was by far the most timid. She was shaking for the first day, would bolt at any little movement or sound and we left her be with just some daily treats. Luckily, the other guinea pigs took her in hand and I think it helped her trust me more.
We had an abnormally warm day two days ago (VERY hot for this time of year in NY). My daughter's little boy and her monster Gracie had to come down in the family room her as her new air conditioner shorted (we just bought this home in Jan after a relocation and learning the wiring after other home improvements). My husband worked with it but we had to bring other cages out temporarily and move everyone around in the meantime. I had to take Salem out for the first time since we brought her home. My daughter was holding her baby boy next to me on the couch and I had Salem on my lap. She bolted up very quickly. I actually wasn't so sure of this little one as she has just been so skittish these past weeks so she startled me a bit. I leaned back and she came up to my chin, stared me in the eyes and I feel a lot of squishy kisses. I waited very still for a nip but there wasn't any. My daughter was freaking out. I slowly backed Salem up to my chest and she started purring! I said to my daughter, "Did you see that? Did she just kiss me?" My daughter was laughing and just as surprised. She says, "OMG mom, yes she did! I saw that!"lol. A few minutes later she did it again. I never knew they did this! We were both excited to my husband when he came in to show him and she really did that again.
I am so new to guinea pigs and learning more but honestly am so delighted and really touched and warmed more all the time with these amazing little creatures. Kisses! Wow-who knew they did that?!
