The emergency vet isn't picking up!

She is fine in herself, eating, drinking... and running around.

Don't panic! Don't give her any veggies. The good news is she's still fine in herself and doing the usual piggy things. Is it proper runny diarrhea or just soft poos?

Ok this is what it says on Guinea Lynx...
DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is especially serious if accompanied by the pig looking ill and sitting with its coat puffed up: get to a vet. A black, foul-smelling watery mess indicates a very serious intestinal problem (bacterial infection, eating spoiled/moldy hay or vegetables). For diarrhea resulting from antibiotic use (killing off intestinal bacteria), consult your vet, who may switch to a different one and prescribe an intestinal bacterial supplement (a probiotic).

Milder forms of diarrhea (too many fresh fruits or vegetables or a change in feed) are also serious, require immediate treatment (generally replacing fresh vegetables with lots of timothy hay), and with no rapid improvement require a trip to the vet. Severe diarrhea can also be caused by E. coli and giardia. Your vet will do a fecal culture to identify the problem and prescribe appropriate medications. Read Seeking Advice On Diarrhea at Guinea Lynx Forums for additional advice.

Joanne, look at my reply on Amylouise's thread, just up from yours (sorry I can't post links). You can buy all these things in Tesco and they really do work.
I'm sure she'll be OK, try not to worry. PM me if you need any more advice.

What kind of diarrhea is it? The only one that you need to panic over is sheer black, smelly fluid - anything else can be treated. As she is still quite chipper, I would think that it is rather a tummy upset either from something she's eaten or as a reaction to the stress of the move. In that case, having her seen tomorrow morning will do.

Take her off any fresh food immediately until her poos have stabilised again and make sure that she gets plenty of fluid.

Only if the diarrhea is severe. If she is still eating and drinking, she should be ok for now.

She is still eating but it's running out of her :(. I have put more hay in to encourage her to eat it.

She doesn't like being picked up, Poor baby!

Do you have any Imodium or Buscopan in the house? If not you can get it at a 24 hr Tesco if there's one near you.
My Peppermint had terrible bloody diahrroea when I first got her but I managed to get it to stop within 24hrs using this but it was so scarey. If it's running out of her I would also syringe her some dioralyte.

Just got this Joanne - sorry just couldn't pick up last night had an upset son in bed with me.

I wonder if its the change in environment as someone else mentioned. Her poops have been fine here - I wouldn't have thought it could be anything else she has been tiptop.

Let me know how you get on x

I just fed veggies, I never gave her any. She was wheeking at the top of her lungs. :(.

Her Bums a mess, shes still got Diarrhea, my mums taking her to the vet this morning, and I'll give her bath later as shes managed to get it all though her fur, she must have cleaned herself and had some on her feet. It's on her nice white coat now! :(.

She is still fine in herself.

Poor Bette :( Hope it is nothing too serious Joanne and the vet can give her something to settle her tummy. Maybe you give a veg in your mix that she isn't used to?

9.10, I so am the vets best customer :)), hopefully its something trival like change in the enviroment! Sorry I never called back when I realised it was too late!

Fingers crossed :)

I have everything crossed and will do what I can to help if help is needed x

The fact she is bright in herself is good, I'd be highly concerned if she was puffed up or miserable looking. I hope all goes well at the vets.

I'm tackling the super-soft (though not runny) poops with an inpatient here, not much fun. 2x daily bum baths and cage cleans until it's cleared up. Blurgh.

Update soon as you can. xx

All good, Bette weighs a whopping 2 kilo's, she's a big pig apparently! The vet said just to reintroduce th veg so none for bette for the moment x

That's great news! :) Glad she is OK.
2kg! That's enormous, she'd make 2 of my pigs!

wow 2 kg! my biggest boy is 1.450kg! Bless her maybe she is one of the bigger breed piggies Cuy I think they are called (don't google it what ever you do! :( on the thought of that ) i think i saw the thread on here a while back about it they look like normal piggies just bigger. ?/ I hope she feels better soon definately try the immodium. x

The vet said she's a big piggy, he normally says all my animals are overweight but he said her weight is fine, she's just big boned :))

2kg! Dexter feels like a brick and he's "only" 1400 odd grams. Wow, I need to see pics of this big girlie, off to search for some!

Hope the upset tums settles soon. I'm giving probiotic to the pig here but it's not making much difference TBH - the issue is with diet, not balance of bacteria. But I'm giving probiotics anyway.
