Bette was out playing on the grass but she jumped down and caught her leg on the back there was a slight yelp, but then she seemed fine.

I went to pick her up in which case she yelped and run to the otherside of the run where she sat trying to steady herself. She couldn't walk on the back left foot. She sat for a good minute trying to sit down. I left her too watch and she eventually calmed down.

I've carefully picked her up and brought her inside shes in her cage now and appears to be walking fine again.

Although shes sleeping now. I have metacam if needed. I'm just waiting to see how she is when she wakes up.

Does anyone know the dose for metacam?

hi there I had metacam for my guinea pig and the vet gave me a 2.5 ml dose for her 3 times a day and she soon perked up :)

Hopefully she won't need it, but if she is pain when she wakes. I'll give her some too help.

What concentration Metacam have you got? The one I use is 1.5mg/ml dosage 0.1ml for an adult pig - I'm assuming Bette is over 800g.

Yes Bette is a very a big pig, I have the dog one. Not sure of the doseage I'll check later if needed.

I think it may just be a sprain, I hope!

the one i use is 0.2ml twice a day the dog one... ive never heard of a 2.5ml 3 times a day god if you give them that much of the dog one it will kill them

did he give you 2.5ml and you had to draw up 0.2ml ?/?/I'm suprised you guinea pig wasnt loopy with that much seems waaayyyy ttooooo muuuccchhhh

Poor Bette! I hope that it's only a light sprain.

Make sure that you check whether you have metacam for dog or for cats.

Metacam for dogs you can give up to 0.2 ml, metacam for cats my vet told I could give up to 0.7 ml, but unless Bette is very badly I wouldn'y max it out.

Good - I thought that it didn't sound too serious.

Little accidents happen from time to time.

Glad she is now ok. Dosage range for Metacam that *I* am aware of is:

Dog strength:
0.1ml - 0.3ml 2x daily

Cat strength:
0.3ml - 0.9ml 2x daily

The highest doses should be for short periods only. The standard dose for an adult guinea pig would be 0.1ml - 0.2ml 2x daily (dog strength).

Dog strength is three times more concentrated than the cat strength, hence the different dosages. I've only ever used dog Metacam myself though.
