Betty had a really poorly tummy yesterday evening and I had been texting my Vet, John Chitty in Andover, for advice. His last text to me said if she gets any worse to phone him. Well, it got to 11 O'Clock and I was just giving Betty some critical care and she looked really unwell and bloated. I did the tappy of the tummy test and it sounded hollow and the gurgling sounds coming from her were awful!

I phoned John and he said to immediately meet him at his surgery in Andover. We drove to Andover (half and hour) to find John and his wife Kate waiting for us, were whisked in and Betty was examined. John kept Betty (and her friend Mavis) overnight, gave her an injection to keep her guts moving and intravenous fluids. He phoned this morning, as promised, with an update stating that she looked a lot brighter. He had also xrayed her which still showed some bloat so he suggested that he keep her another 24 hours to make sure that she still improves.

What amazing care for Betty and me (a very worried owner). He reassured me that I did the right thing by bringing her in last night and made me feel loads better, especially as I woke him up too!

Just thought I would let you all know how impressed I was with his care. I think he deserves another bottle of wine!

What a wonderful vet indeed! Bloat needs to be treated asap if you are to have a chance. I am sending my vibes!

He is brilliant. I completely trust him. He seemed quite hopeful with her but wants to expel the rest of the wind that is in her tummy and make sure that she poos - those are his main concerns. His veterinary nurses are on shifts until about 10.30 at night and they go in and check on all the patients that are staying there.

I just thought it was amazing that was prepared to come all the way from his house to Andover for me at 11 O'Clock at night and not make me feel bad. He also completely reassured me by making the decision to keep her over night to sort her out

In my opinion that is what a vet should be like :) If a human was seriously ill, they wouldn't be turned away from hospital.

Although my vet is great, I wouldn't mind one like yours

Forget the bottle - buy the man and his wife a vat!

I've dealt with John Chitty before, he's great! He's my vets "go to" man for exotics and has helped me endlessly with Colin over the 2 years that I've had him, as he's been so sickly!

What a fantastic service being able to text your vet if you're worried and him coming straight in if you need him! What's the name of the practice? I have a brilliant vet 1/2 hour away from me but it's a different veternary practice that provides the emergency service. Andover is also 1/2 hour away from me (in a different direction) so may well be a good one for me to register with as well.

Just to let you all know that Betty is home popping away like there is no tomorrow. I have got meds from John and he wants me to phone him for the next few days with daily updates on her and her poo! Her poo is fine this morning as I have been practically in the cage with her following her around! ha ha

He has been amazing - and I cant thank him enough

Ha Ha! Thanks yes she certainly has resumed normal service! She's a real monkey and loves her runs around the kitchen and dining room every morning and goes mad with her friend Mavis!

It's like the olympics have arrived early!
