When I was out in the garden earlier, taking some pics before getting the piggies in off the grass, a buzzard came flying really low down the length of the garden and landed in the tree at the bottom. I have never seen that before. I think it was hoping for a guinea pig supper! The piggies were all safe and secure in their runs and didn't even notice it, or if they did they thought it was an oversized jackdaw.

What with @Tim 's garden visitor too, its a wild, wild, world out their for piggies.:eek:

Goodness. That's scary. I always have the top of the runs on so I'm okay, but oddly enough when cleaning today I had a couple of the doors open while clipping nails, weighing, boar glue cleaning - you know, the usual, and the husband looked up at the sky and said, just be careful, there's a lot of activity about today.

You never can tell.

I always put an old duvet on the top of the run whenever my lot are in it. They feel safe as they are covered up and also nothing can see them from above.

@Mother Hubbard just did a quick double take of your post, the first time I read it I didn't see the comma between the words "weighing" and "boar" :lol!::lol!::lol!: My eyes are getting tired, it must be time for bed!

I could see where you'd get that from...mind you, I reckon it would probably register an once or two...

Yeah, I always put fitted double bed sheets on mine, they fit perfectly, provide shade, reflect the sun and make the piggies feel more secure. but this evening I hadn't bothered as it was cloudy and the pigs were not going to be out for very long:mal:

A magpie once got into my run and was pecking at my long haired pig Mavis. It seemed to want to pinch her hair

I can't put a run in up for the piggies in my back garden - it backs onto woods and there are buzzards, magpies and jays all nesting there. I have no doubt, having seen them predating nests and helping themselves to birds and small mammals, that my piggies would be just sitting waiting for an unwelcome attack upon their runs. So I use the front garden which is open and there are less places for any big birds to loiter and plan an assault on the piggies. And I always have a cover over the run.

Mine have a fully lidded outdoor run and I also put large umbrellas over to shade them and protect them from view.

I put mine out on the lawn and I used to put the cover over the run after I had brought them all out, until one day I noticed a magpie sitting on the fence showing a bit of interest. Since then I put the cover on before I start bringing them out....just to be on the safe side.
