I have a squeaky wee-er and I've identified Big Dave as the culprit.

He went off to the vets today, had a full examination and he's uncomfortable in his bladder and right kidney. He's booked in for a CT scan on Wednesday to check for stones.

I hate pigs!

Poor Dave, there is so much of this about at the moment, at clinic on Saturday we had at least 3 pigs with bladder issues, all had scans done and 2 ended up needing an op. Hope your scan gives you some answers.

Oh No! - poor Big Dave! - hope he gets sorted - out of interest do you know the rough cost of a CT scan? - thank goodness for insurance! - am still awaiting my bill for Noodles, which will be presented to me after next weeks appointment and histology (goodness knows what that will cost) report!Your pigs are truly making sure that you have as much practice as possible for your future veterinarian life!

I think she said the CT Scan was £90. It's not much different to an X-ray price wise but shows a lot more detail!

wouldnt suprise me if it had something to do with commercially bought hay. If a company suddenly have their hay grown on calium rich ground... etc etc... My pig who passed away a week ago had 3 bladder stones. Leeland had sludge and I'm pretty sure I saw her squeek once during a poop which freaked me out about crystals... (but fleuroscopy showed perfect gut health). I've changed hay because I'm pretty sure its not just the veg that can hide high calcium.

Good luck big Dave

Remember cystease and tramadol are your friends!

Paws all crossed here.......

My thoughts are with you and big Dave. My Erin is really poorly following an op yesterday. Her bladder was full of sludge, grit and a stone was forming.

She had an ultra sound. At first they thought womb infection and she was going to have an emergency spay!

Aww poor Erin, I hope she's feeling better soon! In my experience it takes 24-48 hours for them to pick up after a GA but a few more days after that for them to start being "normal" again.

I've successfully got a sample from Dave though so off to the vets with that soon (when I've got dressed...)

My sympathies are with you! I have had one major stone piggy I am slowly getting on top with what works for her to manage her ongoing issues (she's the one currently recovering from an emergency spay), and several others with minor stone/debris/interstitial cystitis problems along the way.

I agree with Pebbles that cystease (glucosamine) to protect the bladder walls and some anti-inflammatory/painkiller are the things that work best for me, too.

All the best for Big Dave! I will think of him and you tomorrow!

As you might remember, my Nibbler was a chronic bladder problem pig, so my thoughts are with you on that front.

I hope all goes well and that Big Dave is better soon x

Love to big Dave, hope you can get to the bottom of things for him. Healing vibes to him x

So big Dave had his scan today. Kidneys fine and just a small amount of sediment in his bladder, not significant enough to warrant any further treatment yet though.

They did however, find pneumonia in his right lung! So lots of antibiotics for Dave. Must have caught it dry early as no signs what so ever!

Poor big Dave, hope he feels better soon, lucky you caught the pneumonia early

:( poor Big Dave me and the furry brood send all our love and wish him a speedy recovery!

Oh my! No wonder he is not feeling well. Poor little man. I hope he gets well soon.

Sending lots of healing vibes to Big Dave x

Oh blimey, good that they caught it early though. Is he on Zithromax?
