i have a very big decision to make for georgy, here are my choices:

  • i keep georgy and buy him a new hutch
  • i try and rehome him

Georgy is a very special piggy to me so i hope i dont have to choose rehoming, :( recently i have been thinking of ways to raise money for georgy's new hutch. not only am i paying out this year for 2 new runs, (for georgy's group and for smidge's) i need to buy georgy a new hutch, can afford this, since my birthday is only 2 months away, and the straightners i wanted to get i can get as a birthday present instead. the problem is bedding, every week i splash out £10 of my money on just Smidge's woodshavings hay and georgy and flufllfy's hutch just gets the remains really. i will have to double this now to make more.
with fliuffly, i can easily add her in too smidge's group, but georgy and smidge fight because they are both males wanting females. i do not know what to do, and what is best for georgy, its a big decision i have to make, can anyway give me some advice on which pathway to take? rehome my little georgy, or ride out my cash issues and keep him?

yes but it isnt big enough for george, and i find it hard to clean :(

oh ok.. errmm how about some grids for him and Fluffly to live in? Or, forget the shavings, use shredded paper and hay instead.. saving a bit of money?

If it comes to the crunch that you need to rehome, I'll help you out love, you know that :)

nat how much do you pay for your hay and how much is your shavings? i get my hay from a farm and it's good and cost £2.50 and last two weeks and that is for 30 ish piggies.

i get my dry food at p@h large bag about £11 and that lasts 1 week but is for alot of pigs, would last you longer.

i use aubiose bedding, bit akward to get around here but costs about £8 and lasts me for 2 changes of cages, i have 6 normal cages, one large cage and then a cage that is about 8ft but two layers plus, that gives you an idea of how far the bedding goes.

was trying to show you that u might beable to cut your cost down................. ;D and that would help you to get other things.

how much is the cage your after and what size

i cant keep grids or cages because i have cats and my dad wont allow them in the house until we move.
the only place i can get them from is hobdays and p@H where they cost the same!

what sort of cage are you after then and what size..............

are you moving house then

Nat, I am sorry you have found yourself in this position, is the bedding problem because you don't have any extra cash to buy more?

I wonder if you could ask your parents if there is a farmshop nearby, you'd be surprised where they are, I didn't notice them until I started looking for one, and found I'd been driving straight past a couple without knowing they are there...... a bale of hay costs £3 and shavings £8 and lasts ages and ages and I have 6 guineapigs and 2 rabbits, I bet the hay and shavings last more than a month, so with a bit of effort you're reducing your weekly cost to a monthly one :)

Have you tried asking on freecycle if anyone has anything they can help you out with. My local group has had both shredded paper and rabbit hutches up for grabs recently!
