I gave my long haired guinea pig a bath earlier and I noticed that she has a largish lump on her side, at first I thought it might be a cyst but I then noticed it's an open wound and it's very yellow and lumpy. (I'm not too sure how to attach a photo but I'm trying!) I am going to take her to the vet tomorrow but I am quite concerned, has anyone got any help/advice as to what it might be? would be really thankful xx

could be a burst cyst but she needs a vet as sounds infected. Bathe the wound in boiled water, not sure what you can add to it

It could possibly be an abscess from a wound. Please do not squeeze or treat it yourself, take her to the vet tomorrow. They will probably treat with antibiotics, the best one for skin problems is Zithromax. Good luck!

thank you very much! that's probably it, I just hope it's nothing serious :) x

Wow I've never seen anything like that :( It's either an abscess that's burst, a cyst or sebaceous cyst. Either way, vet's appointment & diagnosis & treatment is definitely the way to go :)

Best of luck at the vets, I would only suggest trying to keep it clean overnight incase of infection but I can't say I've aeen anything like it.

good idea! she doesn't seem to be in pain but it doesn't look too good! I will make sure I do :)
