My two long haired guinea pigs had been treated by the vet after I noticed a lot of movement of small lice on Granville's rear back end. The vet treated Granville and his cage mate Marlow over 3 visits costing about £150 in total. The vet indicated I would have to go back if the lice were still there in a week. Most of the lice had disappeared but there was still quite a close knit colony on Granville! I had deep cleaned everything in their room and got rid of the wooden hidies and replaced them with plastic ones. I contacted Gorgeous Guineas and after a short discussion about the situation I ordered Lice n Easy. After two shampoos over 2 wks the lice have disappeared. I have two happy non scratching guinea pigs again. Many thanks to Chrissie of Gorgeous Guineas.

Glad that you have been dealing with a strain that has reacted well to lice'n'easy.

The shampoo can really do the trick in some cases, but unfortunately not in all, which is why we are not recommending it as the ultimate lice treatment although I usually recommend giving it a try if the traditional approach is not successful.
We have had a number of members over the years where lice have been unfortunately very persistent/resistant and have needed both several rounds of medicated baths (including lice'n'easy!) as well as ivermectin etc. to get on top of them. :(

For that reason, we recommend to be very careful when treating on spec, as it can make things worse instead of better.

Thanks @Wiebke. They'd each had 3 injections of panamec and Granville had had an alcohol rub on the last visit. If the shampoo I bought hadn't worked they would have been taken back to vet. I think the lice came from a rogue bag of hay. My other guinea pig kept separately was unaffected. They both smell lovely as well.
