Anyone know the biggest bags you can buy?

Also are they good value if you buy huge bags?

I bought a 10kg bag not too long ago and it's got about a third left. It was on offer anyway and I had a 50p voucher too so it worked out quite good value for my lot. Burgess guinea that was. I have considered changing to 10kg of pets at home as they seem similar nutritionally but for a couple of quid difference is it worth it?

Thoughts, tips and advice from multiple piggy owners please!

Hay by the bale is definitely the best value you can get. It's so cheap you'll feel embaressed when you pay the farmer... I store mine in an old duvet cover in the basement and stuff a large paper bag that fits in a closet to have hay close at hand all the time.

I know some people have been unlucky with farmer hay, but it's so cheap that if you get a bad bale, just dig it down in your garden and ask another farmer! And even though I buy Oxbow Botanical for a treat (they don't care much for the timothy or orchard grass compared to their regular hay) it's just insane to ship GRASS across the globe. (though I can understand if people who have been unlycky with lice or the like too many times opt for American hay)

10kg pets at home nuggets is £16.99, i have quite often thought about getting it, but i cant carry it home and i dont drive, the 4kg at £7.82 lasts me about a week and a bit, my boys really only like the nuggets, will have to send my OH to get some, especially as I'm banned by my OH from going anywhere near the adoption centre :p

I buy Charnwood Mill guinea and bunny pellets (seeing as I have guineas and bunnies it means I only have to but one type of food). 25 kg sack is approx £11.

I stock up on the 10kg bags too Lisa. I buy Wagg Optimum, it's only £11 and a quality pellet, very similar nutritionally to Burgess.

Hi laura - where do you get the 10kg bags from and do you need to pay extra for delivery?

I've noticed it has quite a bit less vitamin c in but with them getting veggies twice daily I'm thinking that doesn't really matter?

I've been looking at using this as well as we have rabbits and guineas but will have to have it delivered as the nearest stockist is an hour away. I have heard very good things about it. The price is unbeleivable too

I have just emailed them to find out the amount of vitamin C and is it protected.

That's a good price for a huge bag.

Okay the Charnwood milling one has less fibre than Burgess or Wagg Optimum. Is that really important bearing in mind they eat so much hay?

Thoughts?

I buy the Wagg Optimum from Vet UK, it costs just over £11. Postage is £5, I justify it by stocking up on other items too! I also buy 3 of the 2kg bags of Science Selective to mix in.

How much % fibre is in Charnwood?

you need a good old fashioned shopping trolley!! Ikea have some nice ones not too much to pay.......I too don't have a car..and find that me shopping trolley is great..even if you take the bag off and use the wheels for the bulk items...incredable how much you can get in a trolley!

It is lower than the ideal (which I *think* is 15% +) but your guineas do eat a lot of excellent quality hay; I don't think the fibre content of the Charnwood pellets would be an issue.

22KG of Oxbow Cavy Cuisine is 57.80 from SPH Supplies (shipping is free for orders over 60 pounds). Looks like it's recently gone up in price by a couple of pounds.

Ive seen the wagg optimum big bags in merthyr no frills Lisa, if you can travel but i suppose by the time you pay petrol money to get there you may as-well order off vetuk. :)

I've got mine off P&H in a big pack, but i bet there's nuseries and farms that sell them. good luck!

Wagg Optimum I have just discovered is £3.50 a 2.5kg bag in ASDA making 10kg £14. Cheaper than burgess and pets at home and ordering it on Vet UK.

So I am considering going down this route - it gets added in my shop that way and I save a few quid. I think I may add it to the mix of pellets I am giving now and then maybe do Burgess and Wagg optimum mix.

If I see the big bags soon in person then I will get one but for now this is a bit cheaper
