He's been on the frusemide for a month now the vets said he wants to see him to review it and maybe ween him off/ stop altogether to "see how he goes". Is it just me or is this a very bad idea? if they do stop them i was thinking of asking for the injectable frusemide incase he goes downhill.

Erm dunno is my answer but I would be interested in hearing other replies to this. I have a dog with serious heart problems and a piggy with a murmour.
Please keep us posted. Anyone else have thoughts on this ?

Will be intertested too, my immediate reaction is a no, but don't know the details, Is he in any other heart meds such as Fortekor or Enalapril?

He was on enelapril briefly but when his heart went back to a regular beat and all the fluid had gone the vet said it wasnt needed anymore.

Seems like a big risk to me. I'm tempteed to get a second opinion from another vet if they want to stop it. Saying that though two different vets in there have already siad the same about weeining him off.

Hmmm that's intertesting, Nigel is on his meds for life and Honey was too but they could be completely different.

the first vet who saw him when it kicked off said the same "will more than likely be on this for life"

I would have thought it was the heart meds that were making his heartbeat regular, that's what has happened with Nigel.

Exactly. I was under the mpression they were keeping him going as it were.

alarm bells ringing here :(

It definitely doesn't sound right to me. Is there another vet nearby you could get a second opinion from? How is he now he is off the Enalapril?

He's been fine without it. Hi last visit to get his burst cyst checked out she listened to his heart and stuff and said it was all clear beating normally. I can tell though if i am a bit late giving him the frusemide he gets a bit weezy. Theres a vets right by work i was going to go into on monday after being to this one on sat. I have enough frusemide for 6 days.

If he gets wheezy before his Frusemide then I would think that the vet should not be stopping it.

someone in work has a friend who is a vet. He's spoke to her and she agrees with me. Ive got her number to ring her after ive been to my vet.

The vet has agreed the frusemide is defintly helping him along and not to stop it. She wants me to try reducing the dose to 1/8 instead of 1/4 a day to see if a lower dose will still help him. Personally i think 1/4 is sufficient. But ho hum i will try. she's given me a months worth and wants to see him again in 3 (or sooner if he needs it). She said when i need more meds i can phone up the day before and they will have a months worth ready the next day for me.

She said shes happy with his progress and has told me to stop the baytril as his burst lump and foot is much better.

phew

That's good news, am pleased they agreed not to stop it. See how he goes on the lower dose and if it's not working tell them.

He was really struggleing last nite on 1/8 so ive upped it back to 1/4. hes fine now though!

A heart pig needs to be on heart meds. His heart can sound perfectly fine and even look perfectly fine on x-rays; however, he has congestive heart failure which has been confirmed by his improvement from being on both medications. A blood pressure med and a diuretic are both needed if he's going to continue to be ok. I would find another vet.
