This evening Simon met Bill and Ted. He spent a lot of time examining them both. He started with Ted, who would appear to have little or no vision. He didn't react when Simon shined a light into his eyes and when Simon put him on the floor, he moved around but held his head forward as though he was sniffing his way around. When he got close to the wall he reacted when his whiskers touched the wall. He also doesn't appear to react to loud noises. Simon checked his teeth thoroughly using buccal pad separators, and his upper incisors are a little out of alighnment and seem slightly twisted. However, the rest of his teeth look good at the moment, so it's going to be a case of keeping a close eye on things. Then it was Bill's turn. He also didn't react to the light and again moved around the floor as though he was sniffing his way around in exactly the same way that Ted had done. However, on examination, his teeth all look good.
Simon feels they have a good quality of life and that in familiar surroundings they cope well. He has suggested that I give them both a vitamin C supplement too.
So, all in all it was a very successful vet visit for them. Not quite as good for me though, as I almost passed out in Simon's room. He had to go and get me a drink of water and I was sat on the floor chatting to him!
