Bill and Ted’s Visit to see Simon Yesterday 😟 😀

Me, Hamish & Harry must have missed meeting you by about 15 mins! To drive all that way is such dedication!

I’m so pleased to hear the unexpected and worrying op went well! Sending Bill & Ted lots of love. Xx

Just catching up on this ... poor Bill and Ted ... wishing them a very speedy recovery.

They are both very lucky to be in the very capable hands of Simon and bless you and your OH for being such dedicated and caring owners to drive so far for Simon’s advice and treatment.

Please keep us updated on their progress.

Hope both boys recovery quickly. Simon is such a good vet, the fact that he prioritised getting Bill sorted just shows the level of care he has for guinea pigs - it’s something I’ve never experienced before until I went to him for myself.
Good on you for making the long trip too, it can’t have been easy.

Many thanks, he is a wonderful vet, It was around 10.45 and he said he had two more appointments to see then he would do him straight away as a priority so we could set off home not too late, he is fab, wish he was nearer x

Thank you, we will, they are both doing well. Ted has perked up so much compared to yesterday morning when I really thought we would loose him. Bill has been amazing despite his operation, he’s been less of a worry, he’s so a little fighter x

Aw, many thanks, we have Just about got over that journey now, what a shocker! Both boys are doing well and look8ng good this morning x

Well, we have been on a rollercoaster ride this last two weeks with Ted not eating well and gaging on his food, refusing to eat this hay and almost all veggies too. We went up on Sunday and stayed overnight, then made the rest of the journey early Monday morning and saw Simon who filed his doggy molar spur which had caused a massive ulcer in the side of his mouth.

It was then Bill’s turn to have his incisor trim and I mentioned I had found a small lump in Bill’s tummy. I wasn’t unduly bothered as I knew we had an appointment booked in a fortnight (couldn’t get in any earlier as they were fully booked) Simon felt the lump and looked quite concerned, I knew it was something bad at that point. He manipulated the lump and drew blood from Bill’s nipple. He suspected it was a mammary tumour and also found another one just next to it. I was given the choice of monitoring, but he said that in Male guinea pigs with this type of cancer is very aggressive and can grow very fast and become inoperable very quickly and spread very fast. The other option was an operation to remove it. So we made the decision to have it done there and then. Simon was brilliant and put Bill‘s operation in front of all the other surgery he had planned and whipped Bill and Ted off into the back. We had to ring at 3.00pm and find out how it went. We called back at 3.00pm and were told to come back at 4.00 pm as he was very drowsy. At 4.00pm he was eating and was chatting to Ted and quite well enough to go home 😊
I was really concerned about the long journey home, around 400 miles which started at 4.45 pm and ending after 11.00 pm with 2 syringe feed stops for Ted. We had two road closures and long diversions on the M5 at Exeter and M30 ten miles to home became another 20!. Bill was such a little star. Just laid there in his bed eating and sleeping.

Bill resilience has amazed me and my OH, he’s acted like nothing has happened. he has a large wound under his tummy and has had the indignity of having one of his testicles shaved (my OH mentioned this, it’s a man thing 😆 ) He’s even tried to hump Ted this morning, so doing really well so far!

Ted has been really off it until about 2.00 pm this afternoon when OH went out and found some lovely grass, this has picked him up no end, he lost 25gm yesterday despite my best efforts. I really thought we were going to loose him his morning. He is now starting to eat a little bette, no hay yet, but some veggies and pellets and grass. Simon says it will take a few days for his mouth to heal and then he may get an interest once he stabilised weight wise and feeling better.

So all in all really pleased, Shell shocked, still worried and so grateful to Simon, what an amazing, caring vet 😊
A big thanks to my OH too for driving through the dark miserable night, trying to avoid potholes! 🥰
Poor little piggies! Simon sounds like a great vet 😊

Finally finished work for the day and popped on the forum to see how Ted’s mouth was and found all this.
You must be feeling absolutely exhausted.
I can’t believe the news about Bill - what a shock.
Jemimah would like to say that she perfectly understands how these things happen as she just went in for the removal of her persistent abscess and ended up having an emergency spay.
She hopes both her favourite boars make full and speedy recovery.
Eat up boys - she still prefers nice chunky boars.
She sends lots of love and kisses :wub::wub::wub::wub:

Her slave sends hugs to the humans
Aw, thank you so much For your support x Bill and Ted send their hugs and kisses to Jemimah. 🥰😍🥰😍 Ted says I’m eating my way back to being a big hunky boar again x Bill sends this love and a big rumble to Jemimah, I’ll be back to my old hunky self in no time Jemimah 😍🥰😍🥰
Just glad we all came home, after the journey from hell! Simon was amazing and worth the drive though x

Wow! What a very busy and shocking day for you all. But I'm glad Bill & Ted are both doing great despite everything!

My wish was Simon could move to North Wales! 😂 Hubby always tell them whenever Simon is having a holiday in Wales, if he can check in where we live so he can do a full check up with our piggies. 😂 He also suggests that Simon can do a mobile vet service around the country. :D
Yes, we could definitely do with putting Simon on the road! 😆 A mobile vet service we be great!

Oh my goodness what a tough few days you have had!
Sending Bill and Ted massive hugs . Get well soon little piggies.
Still think Simon should run a training school for vets, he's so brilliant.x
many thanks, they are doing well today x I wish he would, some down here leave a lot to be desired 🤨

I have had to do a change over in their hospital cage! Bill jumped up onto the top of their bed last night like a spring chicken. I don’t want him straining himself or tearing his stitches so I have put in two step stools instead. What a maniac! 😄

Thank you, they are both looking good this morning, now it’s just a matter of getting Ted to eat hay again, not an easy task! Bill’s doing really well
Don’t worry about him not eating hay for now. Nothing worse than a spiky bit of hay hitting ulceration. Grass is every bit as good, and less traumatic on the soft tissue in mouth.

Thanks Debbie, we have given them some lovely grass this morning and they are both tucking in. I’m hoping Ted will start eating grass soon once it’s healed. He was doing really well with his hay before this happened a few weeks ago x

Glad to hear things are looking up.
I’ve thinking about you all.
Hope you and OH have recovered from the journey and the trauma

Thanks everyone x Bill and Ted have had a good relaxed day. Ted had a cuddle on my lap and we watched “last of the Mohicans“ so around 2 hours and managed to not pee on me!
Bill has been fine too and out for an hours cuddle this morning. They have been out for a run around the kitchen on a large fleece tonight which they both enjoyed greatly x Bill showing his little shaved patch, his wound is looking very good and clean. Having a little nap there after a big feed excuse the muesli I’m trying to tempt Ted into eating something other than veggies at the moment, he’s eaten some of the dried peas so that’s a start
