Billy hasn't been very well recently :( He had mites, which he has now been treated for, and he also has quite runny stools. I ran out of food on Saturday and because it was Saturday night the pet shop was closed, so I went to Tescos and got him a different food. I know I shouldn't have done that and I feel really stupid but I was worried about him being hungry. I've been told to not give him any dry food or vegetables for the next couple of days, and just give him hay. I just wanted to check what you think, do you agree with this? I'm so worried about him, the past few weeks he's really started to show his age, and his coat is now not as soft as it is and he's become a bit more little (all my older guinea-pigs seem to do this) And how do I start giving him food again (he normally has Burgess Excel and has been fine on that for about a year now)

I am sorry to hear that Billy seems unwell. Cutting out veggies for a few days is a good idea. I'm not sure about the dry food though. Keep an eye on his drinking as you do not want him becoming dehydrated. If you notice that Barry isn't drinking much, you could syringe him water. You could try giving him a Probiotic to settle his tummy xx

What probiotic should I get? Also, because he isn't getting any vegetables, what do I do about him getting vitamin c?

I put a vitamin c solution in my piggies food, you can put it in their water but mine wont drink it with it in so i put it in there food.I got mine from pets at home i think it was £3.Giving him only hay for a while is a good idea. When you start giving him veg again try giving him some high fibre veg lik e spinach, broccoli or kale. That wored when my piggie had a bad belly.

Hope that helped a bit :)

Thank you so much for all this help :) Unfortunately I'm quite far away from a Pets at Home and I won't be able to get there until the weekend but I'll see if the pet shop near my school has some probiotic or vitamin C tomorrow :)

Thank you for the help, already Billy seems a lot happier. He had his mites bath yesterday and he seems a lot more comfortable. Before I was cleaning his back end every day because he wasn't very well but I haven't had to do it today, he's kept himself very clean :) He seems happier as well, the cheeky piggy decided that even though he'd been running round the shed floor all day, he did not want to go back in his hutch, and sulked in the corner when I suggested it was time to go in :))
