Hi,

general questions here, just wondering if anyone knows the normal urine volume in guinea pigs as in mls.

Also wondering how much their food and water intake is daily. I am trying to put together information for a friend who is considering getting a guinea pig and wanted to put all the information she needs in one thing.
 
I think that piggies vary so much, it would be very difficult to answer that. Fluid intake can depend on numerous things, environment, temperature, veggie intake as these contain water. Some piggies drink a lot, some don't. Dry food is easier, probably around a cupful a day per pig, but they may well eat more if you give it. Lots of fresh hay always available, and a variety of veg twice a day. Of course poor appetite and poor fluid intake can be a sign of ill health, but measuring it daily, too closely could have us getting a bit neurotic about it. There may be a 'range' for fluid intake, but with the average leaky bottle, that may even be difficult to monitor. xx
 
My boys don't really drink much, they tend to get most of their water from the veg I give them. So long as it's always full, she'll be alright. As for food, I've just read the side of the bags of food I use, and it says 30 - 50 grams per guinea pig. So I used 60 - 100 grams per meal.
 
I don't think you can get those data - unless you contact a vet, perhaps.

In my experience, piggies vary so much! I've had some that refused to drink and preferred to get their fluid from fresh veg (and still lived to a ripe old age of 6 - 9 years) and others that were on the bottle regularly.

You get a feel for what is "right" for each piggy, how much and what it eats and how it drinks, what colour its pee and poo is etc.

Not all piggies eat all varieties of veg and fruit, either!
