Hi!
A few weeks ago i posted the the health section about my guinea pig who's urine was suddenly turning dark pink. It would come out normal and then change colour! The vet did urine analyses which showed no blood and all else normal. She had other tests and it was decided that since nothing was showing up and she was seeming fine in herself i would leave her be and assume it was just benign. Then after about 6 weeks of the pink pee her urine is normal again! All i can think of is the hay. I tried them with Burgess Excel Birch Bark Herbage and have just gone back to the dandelion one. Is it possible the bark in the herbage was responsible for her urine discolouration? Has anyone else had this experience? How have your guinea pigs taken to this herbage? I would be fascinated to hear. Of course it could have been something unrelated but it seems a huge coincidence!
Thanks

Our vet said that urine can sometimes to a rusty orange color when it is standing it's something to do with the oxidation of porphyrins in the wee.

I don't what these porphyrins are however! - It is briefly mentioned on Guinea lynx http://www.guinealynx.info/uti.html down the bottom quoted

Blood in urine:

Urine sometimes changes to an orange color on standing (this may be the oxidation of porphyrins in the urine). When your guinea pig has blood in its urine, it will appear red or pinkish (if diluted). Blood dries a brownish color

I agree with @sport_billy and I've seen this happen several times with my own piggies - often after an illness.
I have also fed that Oxbow hay with no changes in wee colour.
