Bad news I'm afraid,

Biscuit is not responding to his current treatment. Yesterday his pee seemed much clearer but not totally clear but today it's almost entirely blood. The Co Trimoxazole is not beating the bacterial infection and we have to take him up first thing in the morning!

My wife's going to take him round because I have to go to work - I took a day off for him last week and I'll get him trouble :(

He seems to be in a lot of pain when he pees but he's still eating and drinking and otherwise is fine. I called the petmedics line and they said to take him to his own vet since he's already on a course of medicine.

Please keep fingers and paws crossed for him - I'm so worried this time.

Oh bless you - hope biscuit gets better soon. Poor thing :(

oh guys, I'm so sorry. Thinking of you both and little Biscuit, really keeping everything crossed here xx

Oh I am so so sorry to hear this. I have my fingers crossed for you. Please let us know what the vet says.

Poor Biscuit, sending lots of positive thoughts his way, hope the vets goes well.

Thanks everyone :)

I haven't really slept very well as you can imagine. I'm gonna have to go and get ready for work etc. but my wife wille heading over to the vet's this morning and I hope to have Biscuit back with us and on a new course of treeatment this afternoon. As ever, I will keep you all posted.

My wife, Biscuit and I really appreciate your well wishes :)

Hiya!

Sorry, Just had to say Good Luck, I wouldn't give up hope just yet Patrick has been in pain when urinating and passing blood since May although this isn't ideal he still does have quality of life. He episodically passes blood but always cries when urinating or defecating.

Perhaps a sterile urine Sample would be an option, I would however not advice taking it directly from the pig's bladder just a sterile surrounding etc and send off to the Lab they can test for Antibiotic sensitivity but culturing the bacteria.

Wishes Biscuit a speedy recovery!

x

Hiya,

My wife has just phoned me to say he's been switched to Marbocyl and the vet has said that if there is still no improvement after 10 days, we might need to take a culture sample from the bladder to identify the bacterium. We had to do sth similar with his lungs/trachea when he had pneumonia and this was really successful in tackling the strep he had.

We'll see how this new anti-biotic goes before we think about that. My wife did sya that Biscuit seems much more comfortable today any way and the vet has said that yesterday might well have been a blip due to an ulcer or sore in the bladder opening up but he wanted to change the anti-biotic just to be safe.

Thank you all for your support. xx

Fingers crossed and healing vibes being sent, hugs to you, your wife and biscuit xx

Sending vibes to Biscuit and you! The constant worries and emotional ups and downs during these big battles for life are very hard on us owners.

Just to give you all an update on the events of the last couple of days with Mr Biscuit :)

I've been at work so the pressure has been on my wife and she's been really trying hard to keep an eye on Biscuit. You see, it's the piggy daddy not mummy in our house who is responsible for sickness, the vet and the GPF posting etc.

Anyway, firstly, his behaviour thankfully hasn't changed so he is still his normal, spritely, cheeky self. In fact, my wife said she'd forgotten how cheeky he was. She was trying to medicate him on Wednesday night. She had the two syringes ready (one of Marbocyl - yuck, and one of Metacam - yummy). Everytime she tried to give him the Marbocyl he tried to run away but kept coming back trying to get his Metacam :) . So Biscuit is pretty happy in himself, still eating and drinking normally.

His pee is getting clearer each day and yesterday it looked totally clear. He still can't control his bladder totally and he's leaking a bit here and there (he peed on me twice yesterday). Generally, it looks like he's improving finally. He has another 5 days of his new course of anti-biotics so I'm hopeful that should do it. Then it's back to the vet for a check-up and maybe another X-ray just to be sure.

Thanks for all you posts and wishes - we all really apprecaite them xx

That is good to hear. If he is being cheeky he must be feeling better. :)

Glad to hear he's getting back to his cheeky self, keep it up Biscuit...healing vibes :laluot_29:
