So the story continues...

Biscuit came off his meds on Saturday and everything looked all clear. I didn't want to post anything, just in case. Well, it's three days later and this evening there's blood in his urine again.

I've just watched him really struggle to do just a tiny dab of very pink pee.

He was sat with me for a good 15 mins, perfectly still and happy. He got up and I knew he needed to pee. It was on our brown sofa so I wiped it up with a tissue and it looked a little pinkish at first but then I thought, actually it looks ok. I put him back in his cage after a spot clean with some fresh toilet paper in his loo area and, sure enough his first pee was tiny and pink. Then I watched him, as I say, really struggle to do another little pee which was very dark.

It's too late to do anything now but my wife will have to take him down to the vet tomorrow. We're at our wit's end as to what could be causing this. If another X-ray still shows no stones then I think we'll have to get a sample sent off for analysis :(

I'll keep you all posted as usual.

x

Sorry to hear this, poor biscuit, hope you can get to the bottom of things, sending hesling vibes to him.

Poor biscuit - hope the vet finds something to help :(

So sorry to hear Biscuit is poorly again, poor boy. Hope the vets can get to the bottom of it. Sending healing vibes x

Hope you get answers for biscuit and wish him a speedy recoveryx

It is an on going nightmare my Biscuit is the same, even after tests and treatment it is not 100% cured.

He is still on the barley water and touch wood no flare ups:)

I cant be of much help, your vet sounds like they are trying. Unfortunatly some stones (much rarer ones) do not show up on the usual xray. But its unlikely. The urine sample should come back and let you know the chance of stones or not.

Get well soon biscuit.

x.

I can only sympathise, I'm sure your aware of Patrick's ongoing problems.

The fact he is urinating very little dabs screams cystitis. I wish I had a cure for all the male piggies with this problem. Only thing I can recommend is increasing fluids and barley water. Cystease could help to.

Good luck - I hope the vet can help. X

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your messages. Biscuit spent last night at the vet's so that they could get a urine sample. His X-ray showed up clear yet again so we are almost certain we are dealing with a very stubborn bacterial infection.

This is a familiar situation which is worrying but also it's quite comforting to know that he doesn't have stones. He had a similar problem with his lungs which we eventually sorted so I'm hopeful we can do the same with his bladder.

I'm waiting for a phone call from the vet to say we can go and get him and then we'll wait for the results of his urinalysis.

In the meantime, Caramel is a little sad that his neighbour is away. I always find this funny. They really don't like each other but when Biscuit's away, Caramel always misses him...

I will let you all know what's going on with Biscuit when I find out. Fingers and paws crossed also for all of your piggies who are going through similar problems and thanks for your support x

thanks for the update x

Poor Caramel, my two are a bit like that, they are really that bothered about each other when they are together, but if i get either of them out of the cage for a big old squeeze they just eyeball the cage until i put them back grrr

Bet Biscuit cant wait to come home :))

Well after two nights away from home :( the vets haven't managed to get a useable urine sample from Biscuit grrrr

I am not pleased with them (which is actaully a first so I'll let them off I suppose) but at least he his home now. I still haven't seen him yet as I'm at work :( but I can't wait to see him when I get home.

My wife said he seems a little weak and not quite his normal happy self. I do hope that this is just stress/sadness/homesicknees and that he hasn't picked something up at the vet's.

Anyway, we now have to try to get a useable sample over the weekend so that we can get a proper urinalysis and finally get to grips with this infection!

Poor Biscuit and poor Caramel who has clearly missed him. I have two like that, hate each other when they are together but get very stressed if the herd are not together.

I seem to be continually going through the same you so I real feel for you. Wish you loads of healing vibes and hoping things improve. At least its not stones, that has to be some comfort.

Hope you get your sample quickly, healing wheeks to biscuit x

So....

Biscuit cam home yesterday and I saw him last night. My wife brought him home and said his eyes were crusty and he seemed lethargic. I gave him some metacam and tried to get him to eat.

This morning he sounded pretty chesty so I rushed him back to the vet. He has a little conjuctivitis and a URI in his nose/throat. Luckily, there's nothing in his chest/lungs and he's now on a new anti-biotic - Doxycycline (brand name Ronaxan). The vet thinks that, because he was away from home for so long and hasn't been well, he's got run down and the normal bacteria that live in the nose/throat have become imbalanced and he's had this flare-up.

He now has an 8-day course of this AB and we still have to get a urine sample for his bladder...

He seems a little tired and hasn't eaten much but then, if he's having trouble breathing, that's to be expected. I'll be closely monitoring him today and tomorrow. I'll keep you up-to-date.

Bless his cotton socks, put him in an empty cat carrier and leave him there till he urinates and syringe up.

Another thing I do with Patrick is have him out and syringe water, when he begins shuffling his bum ' preparing to urinate' I then put him in a bowl, I find this method very successful!

I hope Biscuit get's well soon, if he not eating I would syringe Critical Care.
