Bit annoyed at people saying 'they are just guinea pigs'?

I remember many years ago now being a few hours late for work because i had to sit with a hamster who was dying and i got moaned at when i got to work because in their words "It was only a hamster".

When it comes to our furry friends it doesn't matter what size we love them deeply. To us they will never be "just a anything"

That is awful. How can they say that. I took two days off to be with my dying guinea pig, and I am glad I did it. I would never have left her alone. I wish she could have died at home. It was terrible to hold her while she was euthanised. But I believe I owed her that. I could still start crying writing about it. And I would give all of my money to get her back.

I just don't get these people.

I personally think "these people" we should feel sorry for as they will never experience the joy of knowing and loving an animal and to me that is very sad!

I enjoy my animals and yes, people do not understand this. My animals bring me great joy, but I must admit sometimes when they are sick I don't enjoy them so much as it does make me so worried but the GOOD outweighs the bad anyday.

My dad was giving me a lecture the other day about how they are just Guinea Pigs.
Dad " When they pass just put them in the bin :o"
Me "So are you just going to put the Dogs body in the Bin then?"
Dad "Thats different"
Me "How, I love my animals just as much maybe more. They don't deserve to be just disposed of like that!"

These people are every were and strangely enough after this conversation, I came home last night and my Dad told me adleast 3 stories about my pigs of what they had did yesterday!

:))rolleyes, Clearly he's just as hooked ;)!

A very close firend of mine who is not an animal lover really upset me a few years ago, I had lost one of our rats who I had cared for deeply and was telling her her about the traumatic trip to the vets. Her response was "at least there is one less rodent in the world"

At that point I burst into tears and ended the call. I really don't think that she had any idea at all about how much I cared for them. Since then though she has been so supportive and endlessly apologetic.

The rest of my friends although they don't get why I adore my animals so much accept that I do and always show and interest and provide support when it is needed.

We don't have children by choice, but we have Wingus, Myrtle (Hamster) and our dogs, we think the world of them all. You listen and share in peoples stories about their children at work and can see the how much they mean to them, but when you talk about your pets some of them treat you like a second class citizen, which is probably why we prefer our pets in the first place. We're very lucky to be able to share our lives with these wonderful fellow creatures.

i second this. however, you should maybe avoid hitting back with a comment about the pointlessness of their children :(|)

Hehe lol had to giggle at that, they might not appreciate that sort of comment but then again theres nothing worse for me then other people making their kids my problem.

For example- if I'm in a pub i don't want to listen to other peoples kids screeching, and i don't want to be told to mind my langauage or quieten down cause other peoples kids are in the pub as i consider a pub a place for adults, so if I'm out in the beer garden smoking, i don't want someone with kids moaning at me.

I get this at home as well, my other half says mind what i'm saying and don't smoke near to the fence when the kids are out- it's my garden! I'm not an overly loud person but i don't want have to watch what i'm saying or not smoke just cause next doors kids are out.

Oh and people with prams who think they have a right to ram me out the way in a shop cause they are coming through- grrrrr.

Can you tell how annoyed it makes me lol :(|)

So you can imagine that if someone was to make a not so ncie comment about my piggies- well i would tell them where to go :))
