i know people have been worieing i havent been treating my piggy right but i have i havend put the gerbil near them or put them on leeds or done anythink that would destres them but i picked finni up the correct way and out of no were he bit me not that hard i think it was just playfully but i dunno.:{

My Bo will bite me to. Just like Finni he doesn't bite hard, but I think he just doesn't always want to be held. Sometimes it can indicate that they are uncomfortable (maybe just too full a tummy). Som guineas just like "tasting" more than others too. My girls never bite, but Bo nibbles everything :)

Some piggies may bite after all, look at the size of us and the size of them! Sometimes it may just be they are scared!

Well Nibbles went to bite me a couple of times but never actually bit me. She bit my dad though.

Robin has bit me on occassion when I stroke too close to his face - Hamish loves his cheeks and chin being stroked, so I tried it with Robin but clearly he's not so keen!
Hamish even bit my arm once, but I was bathing him at the time and he was NOT happy!

I had a habitual biter (or better, tweaker) once; it's usually a sign that they are not happy about something.

If guinea pigs bite hard, it is usually, because something has frightenend them or hurt them badly. We can't always see what it is that has spooked them, as they hearing is alot keener than ours.

Young guinea pigs are more likely to tweak than older ones, who have learned not to.

Porthos used to lick my fingers quite a lot when I was cuddling him and sometimes he would get carried away and add in a little nibble... never broke the skin, but if it was close to feeding time he'd definately be more likely to try me!

I had a piggy who always bit me when I came home from my holidays even though she had received good care with her sitter.

My Willow is a bit of a nibbler too. She's extremely gentle usually but I've come to the conclusion that she just doesn't like to be carried for more than a few minutes and will gently nip any bit of exposed skin to let me know. She's never broken the skin, but she always lets me know she's not happy about it. So we now try to move her as quickly as possibe to keep her happy. :)

Most of my piggies have bit me, only Maggie-May has never bit. Sometimes they get spooked, like my Pheobe who gets so scared she bites to say "mommy, i'm scared!" or "mommy, i don't like you coming up so quick!" or my Ruby just likes to nibble on everything, bit it's like she's nibbling and licking like she's kissing and tasting you.

We all have to learn about pet ownership, you can't know everything! I think people are glad to help you out!

My Maisie bites my clothes a lot, I think she does it to tell me she's had enough of lap time for now thank you very much :(|). Remember to wash your hands before you handle them in case you have something on them that smells quite appetising. I made this mistake with my first hamster, filled the food bowl and then picked him up, and boy did I make sure I never did that again mallethead.

Orson has bit me once since I got him. He's very timid and uncomfortable with human contact at the moment so I keep his handling down to very short periods of time and often (always with a bit of a veggie treat). I plan on doing this for a while until he's not scared enough to bite me.

You also have new piggies - they can take ages to get used to you. Some I got in the summer and only getting very comfortable with me now.

Our girls bit my daughters a few times when we first had them - never hard (look at the size of those teeth and admire their restraint!). They were expressing their anxiety at being handled, and my children, who were doing their best to be gentle, had to learn to listen to them and be very careful. They don't bite now, so just be very gentle and tolerant until you are all used to each other.

Guinea pigs are born able to eat and run, but they aren't born knowing they shouldn't bite.

Sometimes they do bite. It's something they grow out of and if not, it's something you just have to put up with.
Arnold bites me ALL the time, he really dislikes me but you have to just get on with it and hope that one day, they'll learn that you're not going to harm them.

My Ralph hates men and bites any male that tries to handle him. rolleyes

Since you haven't had them for very long, it's likely that they're just afraid of you. My boys nipped me constantly for the first 2 months but if you handle them regularly, they'll hopefully grow out of it. :)

Adleast you have accepted Arnold doesn't like you :)), but I'm sure thats not the case and maybe he's still scared, I am lucky infact none of my piggies bite they just lick, but thats just how they are wouldn't say it has anything to do with me! Just not biters they are older and all rescues so I presume someone else has trained them... Fred I think has been neglected but still he wouldn't dream of biting me!
