I know its really hard , but please be aware a lot of snake 'enthusaist' are looking to buy/ rehome/aquire young sows, they may well state they are for a childs pet etc , but please be careful, a couple freinds are very worried by recent events, i have started to ask for a home visit for any one who i dont know who know request sows over boars :'( :(
 
I was only jesting, I am aware of these people as i have had a run in with them in the past! It is a very unkind thing that they are doing and yes that jest was out of order and i am sorry to have offended anyone.
 
:) not offended them , lif you dont laugh you would cry !
i know it goes on but my blood ran cold when i realised the woman i had been talking to had also approached all breeders / rescues in our area. saying the same thing, i normally get a feel for people , i felt no empathty toward her at all , then discovered 5 other people had been approached.

dont really need to say she got nothing but a cold stare from me

oh :( we shall hopefully be looking for a sow soon i hope it this doesnt mean we will be turned down because we can not answer the questions as well as the rescuers hope :embarassed:

rhona , i would could only ask for a home check if local , then would only be looking for snakes etc ! and some one with a snake isnt going to let me in ! I'm sure you will have no prob finding a little girl for you piggy, i wudnt have a prob with you O0
them you wouldnt be you if you did that ;D
 
ahh that makes a lot of sense.

there are no reptiles in my house....although we do have lots of random furries running about lol ;D

Lots of places you can get rescue piggies in central Scotland. If you can offer a lovely home then you should have nothing to worry about!
 
I agree that a home visit is always a good idea. However, don't automatically assume that because someone is a snake owner they only want the piggies for food. I own six snakes, and two piggies, and I would never dream of feeding my snakes pig's for dinner.

My vet owns snakes and feeds them Rabbits, yuk, not really gone into to much detail with him over it but he has mentioned it to me, creeps me out.
 
yuck! if i had a snake i would feed it mice... not baby piggies :( or rabbits either...
 
its the fact that live baby's wriggle that tempt the snake to eat it, i have a Friend who owns a pet shop that sells frozen mice n rats for snakes & often gets asked if she knows of any 'cheap' or free piggies , buns , chins etc she has told them its illeagle but people still do it , she owns a snake her self , but also has piggies, but to be honest if i don't know the person in question , i would be question there motives 150% if they own a snake, Ive seen & heard the 'stories' people come up with to get free food for there snake, but i do know allot of people with snakes also, I'm just advising any one who doesn't know someone to satisfy them self's, how devastated would you be to know that sow you sold is used as a free food machine? i can think of nothing worse :tickedoff:
 
ok but who would wont to keep a snake i mean thee not well the namally pet are there and why would you wont to feed them other live aimals?
 
Its what they eat... in the wild they eat live animals and so its natural for them... some people like snakes ans some people like guinea pigs.. there are probably some prople out there who think eew who would want to keep a guinea pig theyre gross! lol ;D
 
Being a new piggy owner I'm very protective over my little baby! So imagine my horror when my friend announced that he use to go into pet shops and buy pigs to feed to his snakes. He promised me he had tried dead animals but his snake wasn't having any of it!

Spike was from p@h and although I wouldn't change him for anything I regret being ignorant to all the poor pigs out there who already needed homes. I also now feel more sorry for pet shop piggies than before because no one there is going to care about where they end up as much as say a fosterer would.
 
I have heard of this before also it makes me mad to think people can be so cruel >:(
 
My god I never knew that. God it makes me so sick that someone would do that.It's disgusting :tickedoff:
 
I have also heard of snake owners he feed there snakes Ferrets! I feed my snakes frozen/thawed rats and mice. I could never feed a bunny, piggie, or ferret!
 
oooohhh sorry my vet freeds them frozen rabbits you buy at special places he owns a hugh snake, he is very nice and owns alot of snakes, he would never dream ofgiving his pigs,,,,
