crazycavies

Iv noticed both my older boys who share a cage on their rears (about an inch above their testicles) both have a sticky gloopy "lump" (as in something stuck to their skin/fur)

I'm thinking its probably semen? and it will need to be bathed off?

Am I right?

Iv not witnessed them humping each other LOL but what they get up to in the comfort of their bedroom is up to them :(|):(|) bless them!

There's every chance it is the delightful boar glue but it could also just be their grease gland.

ETA! I think it IS grease gland.... how stupid am I LOL, Looks like they might be in need of a litttle clean in that area then because they look a little clogged up :s .... You learn something new every day

In any case a little wash up is needed dear.

I just tried to spot clean it with some piggy shampoo and water but I think it needs something a little tougher because its still a bit gunky,(doesnt look infected or sore, just like a big glob of something stuck there) I just googled and it seems Swarfega is the thing to use! I will pop to town tomorrow to find some

These piggies are keeping me on my toes!

It is very likely to be the boar's grease gland. It deposits a sticky, slightly yellow secretion just above his bottom, on the base of his back.

It does need something more than shampoo to remove it. Swarfega is the stuff to use for this.

The boar will probably not like having it removed and his skin may seem a little pink afterwards in that area.

However, if you are in any doubt that it is something other than this, then pop him to the vet.
