Photo of our new piggies in their new Cozy which is great!

Have to admit whenever they move or turn their head I am convinced they will take a big chunk out of me!

Please help me to not be so scared of them. I was fine and first, but since they both nipped me (which didn't hurt at all) I am a bit paranoid about it all!

We have had them home for three weeks now, they are 15 weeks old and when I go to pick them up they are still really jumpy. They will settle on our lap while they are eating but as soon as the food is gone they are really restless and will nibble anything in sight so we have to put them back.

Is this normal? Please tell me I am doing everything right. I want some nice friendly piggies!

They are beautiful! x)

Unfortunately I can't help about the scared of them biting you bit. I have been chomped by such a wide variety of animals that if they are going to do it, then they are going to do it. :))

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww they're so cute x)droolx)drool

Please don't be scared, remember you're the BIG person!
They will only react cause they're uncertain or scared......... give yourselves time........do things slowly and try to have some treaties with you each time so they know 'the hand is nice and has a yum yum' :)
talk slowly and gently keep this up and when you pick them up do the same thing...... keep chatting, they will eventually get to know your voice and your lovely touch! My girls are over 2 now and will still run away, but i now have taught them certain times to walk over to me and literally jump to be picked up......this is for feeding times and bed time :)

lovely floooofy cozie, cute models x)x)

They are young and will want to be off exploring once food is finished, my little one (fudge the fidget) is a right fidget when I have her for cuddles, the older ones are much happier to sit in my arms or on my lap for a while. Fudge too has tried several times to bite me when she has decided to escape but I have told her off for doing so, she is a right minx sometimes.

I too was quite taken aback when they turn their heads to you as you try to catch them, its actually scarey as they do have teeth of course, but they are generally not intending to bite. It took me a couple of weeks to stop jumping when they did or if they turned their heads. I can happily pick all 4 of mine up and with the exception of fudge I have never been bitten by them.

I am sure as they mature you will find they are not so defensive or skittish and will appreaciate the lap times, just keep at it and they will settle down.

One of my guinea pigs isn't really a lap lover.

He wants to be off climbing cushions and abseiling the sofa.

It's just his little personality. I don't try and force him to stay on my lap, just let him be himself.

You can have lots of fun with them whatever they grow up to be like. I think problems come along when you try and make any animal do what it doesn't want to do.

They are very cute - hope you have lots of fun times!

x) They are gorgeous, new young piggies are scared so are very skittish and jumpy. Talk to them at all times so they get use to the sound of your voice and approach them slowy. You will build up trust between each other, food is always a good bribe!

Touch wood, between us in our family, we've had 12 guinea pigs, and never once been bitten by one. They seem to nibble things to see if they're safe, but not bite.

l 5 of mine have had a go at me. Little blighters. I spose they loose interest when the foods all gone. My gaga however will happily sit on my lap watching tv. She even climbs up my front and makes herself comfy under my chin.
If they are going to bite you they will. But dont be put off by it.

firstly, they are sooooo pretty! also, they are pretty young, and when the hormones kick in, then thats when they like to bite! dont take it personally, and when they get older theyll chill out. also, if you are holding them, and they have a little nibble it could be their way of saying "mum, i have to pee!". when piglet starts nibbling me i know I'm in danger of being peed on and put him down, sure enough he does his business as soon as hes in the pen. also, for some reason piglet (the little oddball!) likes to lick who ever is holding him...not sure why but i like to think its outta affection, so dont be scared!

The problem I find with feeding piggies on your lap is that it encourages them to always expect to have something to nibble on when you pick them up and if food is not available fingers are generally considered quite a tasty option........:))

Try picking them up for just a few seconds at a time, no food, and gradually extend the time you're holding them.

Most piggies will nibble if they can smell food on your hands - my Sid also seems to find my nose quite tasty............rolleyes

you are doing everything fine its only natural that guinea pigs are jumpy as for being restles try holding there back until they stop wrigling and say no to them if they chew things hope this advise helps i use it all on my two guineapigs

Your piggies are gorgeous. x) They look very comfy in the new cosy.

Just take your time and persevere. Stroke their head while they eat their veg as their mouths will be busy.
If you have space to set up a floor time run/ or piggy proof a room, try lying on the floor and letting them run round. It gives you a whole different perspective and they gain confidence very quickly as their natural curiosity takes over. It will really help strengthen your bond with them. (I'd recommend you do this on your own at first as children are just too wriggly).

I get nervous of one of my boys nipping me. He has done it twice, once he was just trying to nibble my necklace and the second time I think he realised it makes me put him down.

My solution is simply to not put him in a position where he can repeat the behaviour. I no longer tuck him under my chin to make him feel comfy, instead I have a blankie he can snuggle into and no more nips so far.

I have removed the pics as you requested Gruffalo. Tried to pm you but you have chosen not to receive PM's. You stated that you had asked twice before for these pics to be removed but we have only received the one request today.
