Hi all. I have a gp who recently got over a pretty rough case of bloat. After antibiotics, probiotics and 3 xrays, he is finally returning to his normal routine of eating and poo-ing. Our problem is that while trying to get a piece of "chew poo" to get some vitamins back, he has gnawed a open sore on his bum. The vet gave us more antibiotics and an ointment but I'm afraid to go to sleep and let him keep chewing to make it worse. Help please

This is not normal. And will either be behavioural - i.e. A behaviour learned to deal with something like discomfort or it could be he has an irritated behind. I would speak to your vet, and potentially discuss having his poo looked at, it may be at there are parasites which are causing irritation and may also be a secondary cause of the recent bloat episode. Animal ointment is antifungal/anti thrust treatment so you have this base covered which is good. How much is he causing damage?

He had a stool sample done at the beginning of the bloat episode that was negative for parasites.

if unsure please seek your local vet.
Please don’t use red type and underlined it can come a cross as rude as I am sure you have not meant your post to be...
