Biting

Hello everyone.
I have a 7 month old boar who has a habit of biting. However , its been worse lately.

since bonding him, he now bites when I simply put their pellet bowl back, and today he took a good chunk out of my hand ! I just need to know what could be going on ! He’s bitten me before when he doesn’t want to be picked up, but nothing like this.

Your boy is right in the middle of teenage when testosterone levels are at an all time high, so he is a) moody and b) pushing his boundaries wherever he can.

Please assert your authority in guinea pig social language (no need to shout etc.); this should curb his misbehaviour a lot once you have clarified the hierarchy between you and made it clear that you are not putting up with any naughtiness from from a subordinate lad.

I know they can be moody, just like us. But man it hurts when he bites ! I’ll take a look at that because I just want to make sure he’s not in discomfort.

Just deal with him the way an elder piggy in his society would. My piggy whispering tips are simply copying the way a social savvy piggy deals with their mates; that is why they are so effective. You will find that the hard biting will stop pretty quickly once you have made it clear that you are serious about this point - and that you are in charge so what you say goes!
