Could anyone tell me if these are bite marks or caused by dry skin or something else?

My new guinea pig has quite dry skin on his ears. I don't remember seeing the red (dry blood?) marks when I was given him or if I just hadn't noticed.

I was wondering if its just dry skin or if my other guinea pig has nipped him. I haven't noticed them fight at all, just play around but Arthur squeaks a lot. I'm not sure if maybe Romano has hurt him or if it is that its so dry its sore and bleeding.

I put a tiny bit of vaselline (hope thats okay) on one of the ears today but he kept shaking his head when I tried to get the other ear.

Looks much like a nip on the ear from another piggie. Although the second picture looked a little bit like it had some dry crusty skin around it. Has it suddenly appeared or slowly got worse and been there?

Sometimes when piggies pick on one another they can nip each others ears. The vasaline wont make much difference but it wont hurt.

Well when I got him, I was told he had dry skin. I hadn't noticed the red marks until today as they are sort of hidden on the ear and it was only when I was checking for mites and lightly pulled the ear I saw the red marks.

I'm not sure if they were there before or not.

I thought if it was dry skin the vaseline would help.

Vasaline will help with the skin. it may be a combination of both. some dry skin with a little nip earlier today. Just keep an eye on it. It should heal ok. Keep an eye on the dry skin though, make sure it doesnt spread or get worse. Some of my sows developed dry skin on their ears and then one got a skin lesion on her side. Turns out the herd had an outbreak of ringworm. If the skin doesnt get better pop down to the vets?

Ohh. I will keep a close eye on him.
Hopefully its just a bit of dry, sore skin and nothing worse.
